Not sure if anyone has seen these. I've seen a few driving around here in Perth mainly on cruiser utes. Does anyone know who makes them?

Looks like a lot of extra weight to carry around just to help you load the spare tyre!

Similar but the ones I've seen are fully caged, a bloody good deterrent if you ask me.

Thanks all I'm hoping it can be made from aluminum but I'm no expert on this stuff, looks like it has to go between the tray and the cab from those examples. I was hoping it could be part of the tray.

Anything can be built mate. It's simply a matter of how deep are your pockets??

This is a great idea , saves lifting 45plus kg of tyre in the event of a flat.
Its been around for ages and well deserves a bit of thought.
Can you lift a tyre/rim combo over your head standing in sand.

They do look good, but heavy as others have said. I’d wonder if a much narrower & lighter ‘ramp’ would suffice just to enable rolling the spare up. As far as security goes, my spares have a similar centre screw mounting & security is a pretty simple but effective affair. The screw has a hole drilled through it & once the spare is mounted an R clip is pushed through the screw inside the vehicle, which can be locked.

My ‘swing down’ spare mounts do still take a bit of effort to get the wheel up, but is far more easier than lifting up without (which I’m not sure I could manage).

There was a retired lady who had a GU ute to do the big lap years ago, someone fashioned up
a similar system for her. Needless to say it worked a treat.

@ Cuppa I can't see why you could not make it using 20x20x2 RHS, the struts are the easy part.
in your case the both of you need to use equipment just incase an hope it never happens you get injured
or have a medical episode out whoop whoop.
I can visual a system similar to a drop down fridge bracket, being two stage

Just stumbled onto this thread. I have built a set of these ( uncaged but still lockable) for my GU. Works terrifically and is built into the tray. I'll try and find some better photos.

Almost all of the tray manuf over here have them as options and Mike at XLR8 or other fabricators will make them custom if req'd.
They usually fit them against the Cab so that you still get both sides and rear access to the Tray or Pod.

Very popular on mine spec stuff because it reduces the manual handling risks associated with the spares

I'm not sure if Ally would be strong enough. I've built mine out of Gal. It wasn't too bad to build, mostly just trial and error to make the angles right ( I've built mine to hold up to 33's).
