Go for a remote handset and mount the head unit under the passenger seat. Works a treat in mine ... no good when you flood it out though, so make sure if you do it there, get it mounted in a cradle frame to keep water off it (or stay out of deep water!! LOL).

Is it one you already have?

If you are yet to buy then I second BigRig... Get a remote Mic version. My Transcevier is on top of the tunnel behind the centre dash and the mike hangs next to the Hazard Switch

Patrols are not easy to mount bulky UHF's. Most people mount them on top of stereo housing .....UUUUUGLY!!!! and damages dash.

Take some advice and buy CENTRE roof console to fit your model.
DO NOT install overhead console HEAD BANGER off road!

For anyone with a sunroof in a GQ this works really well. Small Uniden 80ch unit. Handset holder screwed into sunroof cover, unit fits in close to the map lights. Out of the way of water.
When not in use the cord wraps around the rear view mirror and doesn't get in the way.
