Hi fellas just joined, at the moment I have a 400 chev in a gq ute.
I have seen a lot of forum talk about the LS series of engines, while I know they have plenty of bark, my main question is about their torque.
Do they have plenty of low down grunt..my 400 does, it'll chugg away along tracks with little need for gear changes.
The main reason for considering the ls engines is, they will be far more efficient than the old 400, I use about 68 liters of gas for 230ks, I know the LS series will do better than that....just need to hear how they act down low.
Many thanks Rob.

I had a cast iron 350 in my other 4x4 and would idle nearly anywhere with both diff locks engaged .
The 400 is the commercial motor isn't it,?
I ran an Impco gas system and would get about 300ks from 90ltrs. If I fitted an LS2 I'd leave it on fuel
and not bother with gas, I believe driven sedately fuel figures could be 15/100K

Just had a quick google. LS engines seem to have peak torque around 3500-4000 rpm. So probably not much below 1000rpm.

Thanks Fellas, I thought the LS engines would have the torque at higher revs, just wasn't sure that being computer controlled, that some chip upgrade may move things around.
The 400 was used in passenger cars as well, but yes many were used in motor homes and trucks...i just love the torque.

Ls engines got power everywhere and you could probably spec a cam for your application.

I used the Marks adaptor fly wheel which weighed a whopping 30KG{I think} once you got it spinning nothing would stop if
FYI a STD flywheel weighs 13kg, Mark did this to create torque at the expense of HP
when rebuilt I fit a towing cam to it, only a little lumpy good idle
