First thing to do is post up an introduction before asking for assistance, that gets everyone on side from the start mate

Found this list of possibilties, may be of use

Wheel balance
Out of round tyres (as opposed to out of balance)
Loose wheel bearings
Insufficient castor
Worn or urethane panhard bushes
Worn drag link
Adjustment of steering box
Worn tie rod ends
Cracked panhard mount at chassis
Steering damper unserviceable

Many 4WDs have this problem. The usual cause is tyre balance. Go to a tyre dealer that specialises in 4WD and truck tyres. Some of the balance machines are OK for passenger tyres but don't always work well on larger, wider and heavier tyres. If you can't find any in Wang - try Tower Tyres in Wodonga.

Mines doing the same ATM from flogged out radius arm bushes (chassis end) but worn panhard bushes can give a similar feel in my experience.

Every time I have shimmy it's a flogged or starting to flog tie rod end, I go through the motions of checking everything to make sure but it's always the rod end.
The pan hard bushes give a violent shaking when they go

Thanks guys for all your suggestions,
We own Y61 2006 TD42T with leaf springs, It has 265/75 R16, which had Coopers ST Maxs, but now running Toyo muds, has the standard 2inch lift, have done radius rod bushes, have done panard rod bushes too, i have taken couple times back to tyre power and they says balance was ok, i am think of going else where to see if they can help, i have check tie rod ends couple of times but can't get any movement out of them

I replaced front wheel bearings before this Cape trip and tightened them up just a fraction more than usual and they are perfect with no wobble at all.

Yes i have done that, thinking i might try different tyre company and see what they can do with the balance, wasn't this bad with the Coopers on, so feel its the Toyo's
Thanks for you comments!

I have book it in at a different tyre service, they going to check it all over again, they said they may need to sand weight like they do on the trucks.never heard this but willing to try it!

I have the same problem. I have a CG with 33' and second air. 3" lift. I have checked / done the things in TimE list. I was thinking to get a stronger steering damper. One of those return to centre. My current damper is fairly new, but it is the normal one. Do you guys think it will help or just a waste of money?

I had the same problem recently.
While it was annoying, it wasn't top of the priority list.
More importantly I needed a 2 inch suspension lift, and new tyres.
OME new leafs front and rear, bushes shockers and steering dampener, not in attempt to fix the shimmy, but it did.
I got the tyres a little later.
Not sure which component, or components solved the shimmy, but if I had to guess, I'd say the steering dampener.
Do a YouTube search on GQ wheel shimmy.
I saw a thing there a while back, where this bloke removed shims.
Not sure how advisable that would be tho...mabe no drama??

The balancing heads or sand that they are referring to apparently works very well look forward to hearing your feedback mate.

Yes when i work at i Nissan dealership we use remove the shims, but was the last resort! But i don, t want to do that to my Patrol as i think it will destroy the swivel hubs bearings, i am thinking of putting thinner shims.

I think they want You to use introduction forum to tell us abit about your Patrol and You!
I don't think a better steering damper will fix wheel shimmying, my opinion.
Have you done much swivel hub bearing and the preload on them?

Yes. About 2 years ago I chagned hubs bushes etc. I was preparing for Cape York or SImpson trip that didn't happen! I did the hubs (new hubs). But I have not done more than 5000KM yet.

Had mine in at tyre service the other day and is still shaking, they want me to try a set standard wheels some else that doesn't shake, but my mate who has patrols as work trucks, recon they tighten the reload by making thinner shims and setting up light the hubs cruisers, that my job this weekend coming, will keep you posted on how it goes

Hi guys,

I have done another wheel alignment and wheel balance at a different tyre service, in prove it a little, i have now re done reload on the swirl hub bearings and adjusted wheel bearing fairly tight! but has done little to fix it, now i would like to try a set standard patrol wheels on it to see if it is the rims causing the problem! but might have to wait till we get back from holidays

I've owned 4 Nissan gu,s in my time and every one wobbled removing the shims (upper and lower) worked every time, no caster corrections, wheel alignments this that just shims and no troubles at all ever. Only trouble I know of is a slightly tighter steering but only slight. You may also get a little veering left and right whilst driving to fix that just screw in the adjusting screw at the top of the steering box just a little like 2-3mm at a time in no more until it drives nice, its the 80k shimmy that loosens up the steering. Oh also if you do decide to do it take the wheel off to reduce the weight a bit and I think from memory, there is no other way to get rid of the wobble, if you think about it these bearing can take a pounding and they do so maybe even changing the king pin bearings might help and do it every time the car starts to wobble (click link for a pic) http://i.ytimg.com/vi/1BtdFmyFv9s/maxresdefault.jpg
