Hi everyone, given that we've been participating in the forum for a while now, we thought it was about time we invited a group of you down to our Head Office in Kilsyth, Vic (42-44 Garden St) for a tour of the main manufacturing plant.

We are only able to safely navigate a group of 20 forum members through the factory at one time so we'll allocate spots on a first in best dressed basis.

The date of the tour will be Thursday, August 28. We plan to kick off at around 6.00pm, with the tour concluding about 9.00pm. The showroom will remain open to tour guests from 5.30-6.00pm for those who arrive a little early.

If you'd like to come along, please respond to this thread and I'll start putting together a list.

* Closed toe shoes will be required to enter the factory.
** No photos will be allowed in the factory. I'll take some photos on the night and post them here the following week.

Look forward to welcoming you on August 28.

Cheers
David

Hey folks, thanks to all who came along. Was great to meet the faces behind the names.

I will get some snaps of the tour up this arvo. I was out in the field all yesterday, so just catching up on a few things.

Our Facebook page is the place to be for pretty much immediate responses and some ripper giveaways (www.facebook.com/arb4x4). I'll end the shameless plug there.

Hope to see you boys around soon. As always, any questions or issues, shoot us a PM and we will follow up.

Cheers,
David and the ARB team

thanks David, and to John who expertly provided a tour of the factory. Enjoyed very much and I certainly have a much greater appreciation for the quality of ARB products and the high standards from design to production. Thanks so much for this insight to ARB.

Big thanks to Dave for organising this and for being active on our Forum.

Thanks John for the Tour and informative discussions. I appreciate your candour and depth of knowledge of the Group Business. Thanks for your Openness and willingness to answer the questions and provide detail on How ARB is Supporting and Developing the Australian workforce, Australian Manufacturing, the Australian Current Account Deficit and flying the Aussie Flag Globally with Worlds Best Practice manufacturing, Testing, QA and logistics. All from Kilsyth, Victoria, Australia.

$60mill to the US Continent per annum alone folks! Global Head Office is Kilsyth. Manufacturing line works 24hours a day 6 days a week. 3 Shifts. In Kilsyth. 600 staff at Kilsyth alone.

It is interesting how when there is Nothing to Hide and no reason to be embarrassed about selling out to China that John can proudly articulate the ARB line on their business. Integrity. Consistently proving to the room that ARB is at the top of its industry and deserves to be there.

I did your tour about 6 years ago and have seen your plant then, i have proudly flown your flag ever since. Members have indicated here that they were impressed and will support you in the future also. That support is not only at the checkout. Its at the Camp fire and on the Tracks too.

ARB Kilsyth, thanks for staffing your retail store for our group, not sure how much was spent last night? not sure there was a heap, but as a Brand Night i think ARB will do very well from hosting such a night. Thanks guys.

Cheers again for a great night guys, Appreciate the effort.

So to everyone that got more out of the tour from the answers John gave to the questions i asked....Cheers! everyone else...Sux to be You.! ;) I wont Die wondering.

ARB is a Proud Australian Company that spends $millions on R&D, the quality of work its extraordinary. Nothing is left to chance.

Thanks ARB.

Cheers Darren

No worries at all Darren. It's great we had someone like yourself who was greatly interested in our story. As John touched on during the evening, the difference with our overseas manufacturing (our Thailand plant as a case in point) is that we have not outsourced our production to a third party. Typically research and design will be completed by said company, then handed over. Not so with ARB Thailand. The plant was built by us, and is staffed by a number of ex-pat Aussies.

Thanks Dave and John for a great tour of the ins and outs of ARB last night. Great to see an Australian company doing so well for itself, given the current state of the auto industry. Big thumbs up

This was my first time to be involved with the Nisan Patrol forum (new to the forum), not too sure what other events the forum holds but I liked to attended more of them, you guys seem to be a great bunch of passionate people who love a laugh and their cars.

Darren I'm all for the Aussie made questions, if we don't look after Aussie made it will be a dark future for all Australians.

Thanks again!!!

Thanks David and John for the tour......

I enjoyed myself, and also enjoyed hearing a great Aussie story.

One small suggestion for improvement, as you are doing these tours regularly, was that I found it difficult to hear what was being said at times over the noise, so some sort of small amplification system would be a real bonus.

Thanks again

Mic

I had a amusing conversation with a bloke at a bearing place yesterday. I told him about our tour and then he started on how the ARB air lockers are made in China and not to be made here like ARB claim. I told him that we all walked past the machines milling the steel for all the components and saw all the air locker boxes sitting there, he didn't believe me and insisted he was right. I just said I don't know how to respond to that, I must have been seeing things then.

Not to worry guys, was just as much my fault as I did feel a bit out of place. (You people are all so bloody tall) It was my first outing and not knowing anyone did make it hard.
My work commitments have changed due to a long jury service so the meet up at wombat is looking like a good chance to try to meet some of you again for the first time.

As for the tour agree on not hearing anything while at the back, but very impressive operations.

Glad to read you guys had a great time.
Interesting about the locally made items, especially the locker.
Still wonder why they are so much cheaper in the US, buying market share?
Dumps on us here in Aus though. And I for one don't like being treated like that.

From the websites I've seen, it's not a massive difference.

Here's two:
USA http://www.rocky-road.com/arb-air-locker-compressors.html
Straya http://shop.snakeracing.com.au/search.php?search_query=Air+Locker

Using an IFS 100 series as a guide, on those two sites there's about $100 in the difference(take exchange rate into account).

Now this is just a guess, but I'd say they buy a sh1teload more lockers in the US than they do in Australia and probably also have more locally grown competition over there too, so they have to offer a lower price. Kind of makes sense in that context.

The tour was a definite eye opener for me, disspelled a lot of myths.

Guilty of not checking current pricing, when we had the Hilux about 3 1/2 years ago the dollar was stronger and the difference was AUD $700.00, they would have been exporting with that exchange rate too.
I looked elsewhere when buying for my Patrol because of that. But I'm like that LOL.

Would like to thank David, John and all others involved for their time and knowledge, it really is quite impressive, definitely something to be proud of.

Have always loved ARB's gear and been happy to pay a little extra knowing all their products are bloody well engineered and reliable when you need them.

Cheers again, keep up the good work. :)

Mic, this is something we are currently looking into. It's been a little while since we ran a tour, and I think a lot of people around here forgot what it's like to be at the back.

Cheers for the feedback though.

You should definitely hold more of the tours though.

We all learnt a lot, I actually had a member say to me that they would be more inclined to buy ARB products now that they can see the work and passion that goes into it.

And as Darren mentioned, the camp fire stories that flow from this will echo on to many buyers.
