A/T oil temp Sensor

Dose it matter if I put the sensor for the Auto Trans oil temp on the intake of the oil cooler or should I try to get it as close to the outlet of the trans as I can. so I suppose my question is would I get a more reliable reading having it closer to the trans or would the difference be unnoticeable at the intake of the oil cooler. Its just that the cooler is so much easier to get to.

X3.. I have my sensor fixed into the banjo bolt on the trans outlet to the cooler.
