July ’14 Photo Comp

This month’s competition topic has been chosen by June’s winner, Irish
who chose “in honour of his having attained his Australian citizenship last week ’The Most Australian Picture Possible’.

Congrats on becoming a dinky di Aussie mate.

I reckon that we might get a few surprises this month. There will no doubt be iconic shots that scream ‘Oz’, but I’m guessing there might be a few unexpected interpretations of the theme too?

What does it mean to be Australian? Lets get trawling through the photo albums, &/or getting out with the camera to find or capture this month’s winner. We need to show this ex Irish bloke what he’s committed to!

Monthly Photo Competition guidelines (Please read)

* Each month a new competition thread will commence & all forum members are invited to submit their photos .

* Maximum of three entries per person.

* Multiple entries should be made in separate posts

* Each entry should consist of a single photograph & a short description only

* Comments pertinent to entries are encouraged, but please do not use this thread to engage in banter

* Photos MUST have been taken by the member posting the photos or members of their party.

* Any photo which has been a winner will not be eligible for re-entry in any future competition.

* Please do not post photos that are not entries in the competition.

* The winner of the month's competition gets to choose the following month's competition topic.

* All members are encouraged to vote for the photos they think should win. This will be done by pressing the 'Thanks' button located underneath each post. Toward the end of the month the date & time of competition closure will be announced. Following this time the thread will be locked & the 'Thanks' counted to determine the winner.

* 'Thanks' may be added or withdrawn at any time during the month up until the competition is closed.
You are welcome to thank as many different posts as you wish!

* In the event of a tied first place I will add a casting vote, except in circumstances where my entry is one of the tied ones, in which case I will withdraw my entry.

*Inappropriate photos eg, sexual, racist, violent etc are unacceptable & should not be posted.

Thanks for your cooperation

Hi P4trol,
Just a reminder (for everyone else too) - one pic per entry please, otherwise it makes voting at the end of the month difficult. Would you edit your post & make a second one for your second pic? Oh, and I love the colours & composition of the Roper Bar pic, I’m not usually fussed about shots with bits of car in, but that one’s a beauty.

Cheers

I was a bit later getting to the vote count than I’d said, but have counted them as of 10.50pm this evening.

As I worked my way throughout the entries it seemed that we would have a clear 1st & 2nd, but a multiple way tie for 3rd, but this all changed as I got closer to the end.

“The Most Australian Picture Possible’ was a great & potentially broad topic but has attracted a range of entries that are of little surprise considering the interests that have brought folk to this forum in the first place. A forum for city dwelling chess fanatics would doublessly have attracted very different interpretations. Ourinterpretation could largely be summarised as ‘the great outdoors’. Whilst this fits well for a country where the outdoors is vast, attractive & accessible, it would be far less likely to have such prominence in most other countries. It is a particularly Australian thing & thus very fitting for our competition topic. It speaks as much of our lifestyle as it does of the specific locations.

I did not fail to notice howeverthat one of our newest Australians, & the chooser of the topic - ‘Irish’ winner of last month’s comp, did not let us know what he considers to be the ‘most australian’. Tsk tsk. ;)

Ok your votes are in & we have 3 clear winners.

In first place with his late but first entry & 18 votes is ‘ozjeff’ with his lovely rural scene taken at Duck Creek Rd, Qld.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/08/2.jpg

In second place with 17 votes is ‘P4trol’ with his great composition at the Roper Bar crossing

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/08/3.jpg

In third place with 15 votes is ‘clubbyr8’ with his quirky leaning water tanks.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/08/4.jpg

Guys, in order to place the winning pics like this in the ‘Winners post’ I needed to upload your pics to my Flickr account. I hope this is ok with you. If not please let me know & I’ll delete them & replace them in this post with a smaller ‘thumbnail attachment’.

Well done all, thanks for everyone’s participation . I look forward to receiving a PM from our winner ‘ozjeff’ with his choice of topic for our August comp as soon as possible.
