big round one

Only the intelect and brains of Clunk would think of this solution. LOL

Try watching a few episodes of 'House Rules'. That should give you a few ideas.

will it be landscaped to simulate a campfire out bush, Concrete in a 44 then pull it out.
make sure there are holes for your spit or fire grate poles.
They use these up at places like Sheepyards Flat in the high country

Your only limited by your imagination, what are you after?

One that's a permanent feature or something that can be moved?

If your after ideas, type fire pits into google images or click here (https://www.google.com.au/search?q=fire+pits&client=firefox-nightly&hs=nSR&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:unofficial&channel=nts&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=RkauU9yEHcHHlAXnyICgDA&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ)

The outright best fire pit is a used Cone Crusher mantle from the local quarry, they are made of solid maganese and retain heat real well.
You can crush rock for a solid 10-12 hour shift and there will still be heat the next morning. I have had to dig one out for about 5 hours mid shift and it was like being in a fernace.

I doubt it would be free though and it could weigh well over 500kg, but so worth it

Im installing a brand new quarry, they arent used yet,
Ask the local quarry if they will sell one, maybe $200, as that is roughly what a scrappy would pay.
ideally you would want one from around about a 200 ton per hour one as you could put it in a trailer.
I was eying off one in mackay from one that crushes over 500 t/h, couldnt get the bastard home.

My fire pit at camp was a hollow stump. Damn did the burn HOT that night. We had white flame and coals at the bottom of the pit.

Might be worth a look also on Ebay now and again instead of a copper insert from the old boilers our parents washed clothes in
occasionally a cast iron one pops up about 25mm thick this would hold heat for ages, Just a bigger version than the link.
I'll try and find one for you, I think they used them in butcher shops to render fats etc.
Or dig in a cast iron Bath

Great idea and it can be moved.

You could make something similar out of an end of a 44 quite easily and cheap.

There was a guy on ebay selling plough discs very cheap
about $10 each. Place at the rear of your fire pit to radiate heat forward
I put them 4 x upright on my potbelly flue to catch any heat

have one of those...there is a grill that sits just inside the rim...they are great..you dig a hole under them and cook spuds etc in the hole...the heat transfers down
