June ’14 Photo Comp - ‘Landscapes’

This month’s competition topic has been chosen by May’s winner, Chrisc2306
His chosen topic is ‘LANDSCAPES’.
This is a very broad topic & I expect we will see a wide variety of entries showing people’s favourite spots. I am looking forward to seeing both the wide open green, red & brown spaces that Australia excels at, & that I love, and also the landscapes that epitomise the variety of locations that our overseas members live in. Go for it & good luck.

Monthly Photo Competition guidelines (Please read)

* Each month a new competition thread will commence & all forum members are invited to submit their photos .

* Maximum of three entries per person.

* Multiple entries should be made in separate posts

* Each entry should consist of a single photograph & a short description only

* Comments pertinent to entries are encouraged, but please do not use this thread to engage in banter

* Photos MUST have been taken by the member posting the photos or members of their party.

* Any photo which has been a winner will not be eligible for re-entry in any future competition.

* Please do not post photos that are not entries in the competition.

* The winner of the month's competition gets to choose the following month's competition topic.

* All members are encouraged to vote for the photos they think should win. This will be done by pressing the 'Thanks' button located underneath each post. Toward the end of the month the date & time of competition closure will be announced. Following this time the thread will be locked & the 'Thanks' counted to determine the winner.

* 'Thanks' may be added or withdrawn at any time during the month up until the competition is closed.
You are welcome to thank as many different posts as you wish!

* In the event of a tied first place I will add a casting vote, except in circumstances where my entry is one of the tied ones, in which case I will withdraw my entry.

*Inappropriate photos eg, sexual, racist, violent etc are unacceptable & should not be posted.

Thanks for your cooperation

Not singling anyone out, but the topic for this month is 'Landscapes', some voters wont be concerned about the number of seascapes & waterscapes we have received, some will discount them no matter how good they are. If you think that perhaps your landscape entry is not actually a landscape you have until the close of the comp toward the end of the month to edit your post(s) & change your entry(s) if you so wish.

cheers

Sorry but could you define "Landscape" because as far as I'm aware Landscape does not have to be a photo of "land" only like your suggesting.

Fair enough. I must admit that in my mind landscapes referred to 'land' only, but I thank you for the clarification. I do note however that a landscape probably should include some land, coastal or otherwise.

Hi Bindi,

Not sure if Bob is a professional photographer, just a very talented amateur from reading his previous posts. We've got a few very talented photographers on the site (Fracster, Cuppa) spring to mind and there are others. Many of these make my efforts look very mediocre but won't stop me submitting. All photographs are automatically copyrighted to the owner regardless of whether they add the copyright symbol. I've had a picture I took of a giant squid mirror imaged and used in a dive magazine without permission. I'm sure Bob can speak for himself but I would hate to see his pictures made ineligible, gives me something to strive towards.

If I took quality shots like these guys I'd probably consider marking them copyright as well.

Far from a professional photographer, I wish I had that talent. I make plenty of mistakes, getting up in the morning is usually the biggest...lol

The reason I watermark my images, is that I post them in a lot of places. You'd be surprised how much image theft goes on. The watermark you see here is because of my FB page of the same name, but I'm a strictly amateur photographer but appreciate the comments.... :)

Any last minute votes - voting closes in about 15 minutes time. Vote now or forever hold your piece! (Yes deliberate spelling mistake - it’s called humour). :)

What a great comp this month. I have been really impressed with not only the great entries but also the great participation. I suspect the number of votes cast is a record & reflects the high quality of the entries. I reckon we all deserve a collective pat on the back.

And so to this month’s winners. (Drum Roll)
Not only was voting close, but we had many with votes in double figures.

In first place with 18 votes is Irish with his evocative shot across the top of the clouds in Rubicon State Forest.

Very close behind in second place with 17 votes each we have a tie. Chrisc2306’s (last month’s winner) Canadian alpine lake & clubbyr8’s Lake George.

In third place we have another tie with 14 votes each. @GUte’s Beechworth gorge at sunset & TimE’s Simpson Desert.

Great stuff everyone & congratulations to all.

Irish please PM me with your choice of topic for July’s comp, & I’ll post it up as soon as I can.

Well done all, we certainly have some talented people on here. And what a great country we have to photograph.
Cuppa for future competitions is it possible to reproduce the winning pictures at the end of the thread?

Hi Apollofish, A nice idea, & yes I believe I could do that ......................... however it won’t be long before the competition has its first anniversary (end of August) & I had been thinking about creating a thread to 'celebrate’ - one in which all winning & runner up entries would be shown in order. That way anyone can find them easily. I don’t know if it’s possible but was going to ask AB if it could be a locked thread to which I can have access to add to each month, so that it remains photos only with no comments.

I would be interested to hear what others think about the idea. Of course if the ‘winners thread’ is a goer, there is no reason why the winning pics can’t also be added to the announcement at the end of each months comp too.

That sounds like a great idea.
Pics of winners at end of thread is a must.

Progressive winners thread is also a great idea.
I presume it will tell us competition name month and photo, that way the winner can choose next months comp without doubling up.

Yup, that’d be the plan. I just need to remember to hassle AB about it once he’s back & recovered.

Mate, I think it would be a good idea to have a thread for the photos to be placed in, maybe the winner and runner up for each month all in one thread.

Would save trolling through each monthly thread to see which one won.

Just an idea.
