ALOT of black soot??

I was working on the wife's 07 Navara stx and I noticed a lot of black soot around the turbo and on the side of the block does anyone know the cause of this and what damage it has done to the engine?

Have you checked all of the bolts are tight on the exhaust manifold, manifold to turbo to dump pipe and to exhaust and intake to turbo?

Maybe one of the gaskets as well.

Photos may help other members too.

I don't think any damage would of been done but hopefully others can help further.

Even give it a good degrease and clean up, go for a drive for half hour and you might be able to pinpoint exact leak aswell.

Did you manage to track the leak down?

Finding soot leaks can be very difficult as the soot wont setle where it comes out as it is usually too hot, it needs to find somewhere cooler to settle.

I work on a lot of engines that have thermal insulation on the Turbo casings and exhaust pipes, it is always a mission to find the exact source if it is not something obvious
