Beexy,

I think it will be busy, but I will let the locals give you more info on that.

How long do you have?

We love camping in Brachina Gorge, rather than Wilpena itself, although I will add, it is great in Wilpena too (although busy) especially if you haven't been there before, but Brachina is fairly central, so you can tour around to see stuff and easily make your way back.
There is heaps to do around Wilpena, but be aware that a lot of the station tracks and iconic drives will be $40 plus, for the privilege , but there are a lot of great drives.

We also love Arcaroola, although it has gone downhill a lot over the years, but we love camping down the bottom in the river away from the barren Caravan area

Mt Chambers Gorge, near Arcaroola, was fantastic and we recommended it for camping to friends and they loved it too ... great Aboriginal Rock Paintings and flocks of Finches.

Then there is Warraweena. Willow Springs, etc, etc

You can spend weeks....

I think it will be very very busy, but well worth it!

If your looking for fine camping in and among scrub with some creeks, go south end.
If your looking to do some 4x4'n then north.

Both ends are spectacular but as above will be busy..

Cheers. Thought it would be busy. Were planning on paint through for a couple of nights on the way to coffin bay for something different. Our would it be quieter down that way? last minute trip with the miss just happened to coincide with holidays
