You should head up the Strzeleki past the Cameron Corner turn off and visit Innaminka.
Great camping on the Cooper Creek at Cullyamurra Water Hole.

Fair enough, I will be calling in to Innaminka to do the Burke and Wills Circuit and stay a night or two at Cullyamurra if I don't loop North and back to Alice to look at Kings Canyon etc.

I have two options to get back to WA from Birdsville... South and across the Nullabor or North and thru Alice and Papunya

Take the old strezleki track much more interesting awesome stuff. We're heading that way our selves in June (weather permitting). I've been that way many years ago and the track was good to travel on.

Pretty much just going , not running to a schedule as such , just cruise along and stop when we want , the only bit I'll push a bit is brissy to charlaville ( I do that trip every 6 weeks ) 2 young kids and towing the van , keep the idea's coming though , always open to suggestions ,

Although you could easily do Birdsville to Marree in a couple of days, I’d recommend spending at least 4 nights on the Birdville Track to ‘savour’ the country. Places to pull up for the night I reckon are good are : Claytons bore - star light/open air spa + a short walk to the wetlands, toilet. Mungerannie - Pub, wetlands, & old trucks. Lake Harry ruins, all sorts of stuff laying around to explore & an open air bore fed shower. Farina - a campground in a little ‘oasis’ hidden from the road, showers/toilets. Historic ruins being restored.

We base camped at Cullymurra waterhole, caught fresh yellow belly every day,[green prawn for bait]
From there a day trip to the dig tree, {worst road in Aust IMO] Low water at that time [Sept]
Then packed up did the old strezlecki track up to Haddons crn then a smooth run on the development road to
Birdsville. We went a few weeks after the races and all tracks roads etc were chopped to pieces. Going Sth
we took the inside track and all the clay topped dunes were savage on the 4x4, we kept our speed right
down. At Birdsville we stayed in the units behind the Pub, cheap as.

Gaddy, the Strzlecki is a dirt highway really and can be travelled quite easily. If you are starting from Birdsville, consider Walkers Crossing. It was unfortunately closed due to rainfall when we were there, but we were told it was the better (more interesting) route to Innamincka.

Cooper Creek was a great camping spot whether you stay at Innaminka or at the Dig Tree. The Innamincka pub was great for families with a big restaurant out the back too.

Marree was a fantastic pub with lots of character, as was Innamincka. Lyndhurst didn't do much for me, but the fuel was cheaper.

Great camping and 4wdriving around Arkaroola if you can stretch the trip a little, and the scenery was mind-blowing in the evenings.

Plan a stop and camp at Argibukina bridge south of Oodnadatta. Good luck and travel safe. If you find your traveling well(the roads should be a good nik) consider heading North to Dalhousie Springs, finke and Chambers Pillar is a great spot to camp. Wake up before sun rise for some amazing shots of the pillar.

Coward Springs is a great spot to spend a day or two too. Have fun.

Still out this way and loving it , don't put it off to long , parts of the strezz are bitumen! The birdsville souyh of Mungarannie has no free camping and only claytons bore is open ; all other bores are fenced off , we free camped about a 100 k south of birdsville , and at Mungarannie pub $25 , cooper ck $10 a night , on the strezz we free camped about 100 k up the track , than after that it is basically a highway , the whole area is pretty much mine controlled! Camerons crn track was badly rutted , and a shit load of idiots sideways around corners! We turned around after a few ks and a near head on with a idiot on the wrong side of the track ! Picks when we get home

We did 4700 km went as far south as leigh creek , up the strezz to Innaminka on to nockundra, several days ay yowah , and slowly worked our way home .
2 punctures ( highway rubber so happy with that ) and got the spring hangers on the van moved back half a inch in birdsville, probably would have been fine , but i wanted piece of mind and at $200 for 2hrs work , it was worth it , thanks to Sam at Kraka fabrication for that , great trip wife and kids loved it , and itchin to go again .

$200 for 2hrs work seems a fair price considering where you are.
Remember years ago crossing the Nullabor {dirt} a tube if you had a flat was
$25, fuel was about 30c a gallon ha ha

On the way home spent a couple of days at Yowah a opal mining town between Nockundra and St George , great little town , actually stayed in the caravan park there, ( needed showers , washing , take on water and recharge the batteries ) $20 a night each site has a fire pit ! Well worth exploring if your in that area

for a couple of beach bums and keen fishos we loved it , the solitude won us over and going for hours not seeing another vehicle is a bonus, and been able to free camp pretty much where ever you like , as for opals 1 in every 1000 nuts ( the rock the opal is in ) has one so nope ,

Couldn't have been happier with the van , saw a few of the big name off roaders with issues , mostly suspension related , independent with the wheels on all the wrong angle ( camber ) but i think alot of that would be put down to speed , and over loading!
