This month’s competition topic has been chosen by March’s winner, TPC.
His chosen topic is 'Wildlife'. Another broad topic sure to attract a varied haul of entries for us all to look at. Good luck to all, & to anyone who hasn’t previously participated I encourage you to do so.

Monthly Photo Competition guidelines (Please read)

* Each month a new competition thread will commence & all forum members are invited to submit their photos .

* Maximum of three entries per person.

* Multiple entries should be made in separate posts

* Each entry should consist of a single photograph & a short description only

* Comments pertinent to entries are encouraged, but please do not use this thread to engage in banter

* Photos MUST have been taken by the member posting the photos or members of their party.

* Any photo which has been a winner will not be eligible for re-entry in any future competition.

* Please do not post photos that are not entries in the competition.

* The winner of the month's competition gets to choose the following month's competition topic.

* All members are encouraged to vote for the photos they think should win. This will be done by pressing the 'Thanks' button located underneath each post. Toward the end of the month the date & time of competition closure will be announced. Following this time the thread will be locked & the 'Thanks' counted to determine the winner.

* 'Thanks' may be added or withdrawn at any time during the month up until the competition is closed.
You are welcome to thank as many different posts as you wish!

* In the event of a tied first place I will add a casting vote, except in circumstances where my entry is one of the tied ones, in which case I will withdraw my entry.

*Inappropriate photos eg, sexual, racist, violent etc are unacceptable & should not be posted.

Thanks for your cooperation

Just for fun 3 in 1 The three mudlarks fell to the ground and were rescued and installed into the more modern ice cream bucket nest which the parents seemed OK with as the three chicks grew to fly eventually and leave the new improved nest. They still come back to visit!

Cheers

If your inclined to vote, the middle pic is in; the others just there! We really got our prizes when the parents fed them in the ice cream bucket, they grew up and flew and we still enjoy their return visits.

A very hard shot to get. Right filters and shutter speed and luck. Not so majestic as well but I had the filter dialed in just right and the and the shutter speed perfect. All the moons were aligned....

Hi Chimo, please can you identify which of the 3 you wish to be your entry & which are for 'context'. If you want them all to be entries they need to be posted in separate posts.

Thanks mate. I don't have any ability to edit/moderate posts, but if you could edit your own post to make it clear that the middle one is your entry that'd be good, so folks know which shot they are voting for at the end of the month.

This was taken by my daughter as I was entering the water to warm up for the start of the 2008 Pier to Pub ocean race. At this stage there would have been over a thousand swimmers who had entered the water at this site. It was very aggressive and we picked it up by scooping up the sand under it and released it the other side of the rocks.
I now tread very carefully when entering the water there.

Are they dangerous?
Most certainly, as growler explains in his link. As a diver I have a healthy respect for them and have seen them on several occasions. This one was very agitated as you can see from the colour.
I've read that they also have toxin in their skin that's why we scooped up the sand so there was no way it was touching my skin let alone biting me. What did amaze me was that so few people believed that it was deadly.

Well I’m back from a great but rather damp camping weekend & can now slightly belatedly announce the results of the April Competition.

Joint 1st place goes to my goodselves for the photos of the ciccada shedding it’s skin & the jabiru with the snake, both with 15 votes. Thank you to all.

In second place with 12 votes is Fracster’s great shot of the deer. Sharp & cute at the same time.

In joint third place very close behind with 11 votes each are ‘TPC’’s action shot of the goannas & ‘SonOf’s’ atmospheric shot of the Red Bellied Black snake.

Again well done to the winners & to everyone who put in an entry. The results this month highlight just how different aspects of photos can appeal to you the judges. My winning entries and TPC’s winning entry are clearly ‘right place at the right time’ shots, whereas Fracster’s winning entry encapsulates photographic ‘quality’ as well as subject matter - & no doubt the all important post picture taking selection process. SonOf’s winning entry shows great ‘composition’.
Well that’s my somewhat amateur interpretations anyway ....... we all have our own criteria for picking the winners of these comps ......... & that’s as it should be.

I’ll post the May comp later this evening.

regards
Cuppa
