Hi all :) im currently building a LS1 manual conversion to an GU zd30 auto, has anyone had good experiences with the manual 5 speed from eather an zd30/ td42/ tb42/ tb45/ tb48 Behind the LS1/ LS2? And Which of these boxes would have the strongest internals and will they all bolt up to the dellows bell housing? Any info would be greatly appreciated :)

As far as I know the TD42 and the TB range are the same gearbox just different bell housing

Hi 93patrol, thanks for your reply :) yeah I was hoping that they were the same, seems to be more of the TB42 boxes around. does anyone else know about the later model units ZD30, TB45, or the TB48 units? my build is a Turbocharged Ls1 so the absolute strongest box is a must. Thanks for any more info.

i have seen a few turbo 4.8 manual patrol running the standard gearbox pulling 300+ hp so i dont think the gearbox will be the issue more like the C.V.'s will break first.

the patrol gearboxes are truck like and can handle huge amounts of torque and horsepower i think OLDMAV runs 600+nm of torque through his gq

hope this helps

As far as I'm aware, the gq boxes are marginally stronger, with the gu boxer having a slightly weaker 5th gear.

All TD42's and ZD30's have the same gearbox but the boxes made from '03 onwards have an upgraded 5th gear. As far as i'm aware the petrols have different gearboxes

As above the TD42, ZD30 and I also believe the TB42 (not sure on ratios though) shared the same box.

A little clarification on the gearboxes and 5th gear. The GQ manual box is shorter in the first 3 ratios than the GU manual box (Diesels TD42,ZD30). The 5th gear issue was in the early GU up to 2003 where Nissan had revised the shaft and gear spline design. The GQ box never really had any issues with 5th gear.

Thanks for the info :) a mate of mine thinks the GQ boxes gear selector position is different than the GU's and if a GQ box is fitted to my GU it may not come up through the same position. Is this true? I assumed the only external physical Difference would be the Bell housing!? Thanks again

Yes this is true mate. I believe the gu gear stick is further back than the GQ.
