Hello,

I'm considering purchasing a VRS 12500 lb winch for my GU 11 Patrol fitted with a factory steel bull bar. Any body have thoughts, comments or advice?
Cheers

I don't know that winch so can't comment on its quality but some things to consider are:
Line speed of big winches is usually very slow, and despite what you will be told line speed does matter.
Spare parts are harder to get for any winch that's not a known brand.
I have 2 warn high mounts that are 30 years old and can still get parts.
Quality can be lower on a cheap winch, to me it's important that my winch works when my truck is hanging on the side of a hill with my family inside.
Not trying to bag the winch you mentioned just make sure you ask anybody who says xxxx cheap winch is great " how many times have you used it" "how long have you had it""what track/hill did you use it on" in other words what experience do they have to make the judgement you don't want a bumper orniment.

Agree with Litlid, however other questions i would like to ask.....

What do you do most with your car (touring, mud basher etc) how much is the VRS winch, and is it rope or cable ?

Good questions to consider
I would also throw out there this to consider
If you don't use the winch very often it would be better to have a more expensive winch as there would be more chance of it working after a long period of inactivity, better seals etc

Tika,

The other thing to consider, is that the Factory Nissan Steel Bar was limited in the size winch which would fit in the hole.

A Warn9000 was the maximum size that would fit back when I was given the 'Free' Bar with my GUII, so I offloaded it, and put on the ARB Bar.

There is a whole host of new winches on the market now, but I would take some measurements to make sure that it all fits first....

G'day 04OFF,

At the moment I am mostly touring around in the high country.
The VRS 12500 lb winch has rope and I've been quoted around $ 1000 mark.

$980 for warn 9000. Supercheap has the ridge ryder 12500 in their catalog at half price atm. Think it was about $480 ish

I bought a couple of grands worth at Autobarn and asked for a price on the warn. That's the price he gave me.

Fair enough, doubt a walk up would get anything like that tho.

hello,
Just to let you know I went with the Warn 9000. I fitted it myself with no real issues.
