That's got to be a huge typo I think.

I can't see chinas cost price for labour of that being much cheaper than the retail.

I know what everyone says cheap china labour etc but not at that price, no way.

I doubt this is a scam either. He is all over the web, has feedback and us selling on multiple avenues on the web and has people talking about his products everywhere.

Surely a typo???

Defo a typo. I know what these cost from China and even if they were supposed to be $229 they would be shooting themselves in the foot. We'll see what happens. If they come I will mount all three with my 40 inch bar just coz I can.

John. my 40inch bar is the exact same one as this. Only paid around $200 for mine and its effing bright I tell ya. I don't really care if its cheap rubbish, as it doesn't/ won't hurt as much if I break it or it gets nicked. I would seriously cry hard if I forked out over 700-800 hunge on a branded light bar and I got nicked or I broke it on a tree branch. My guess's are, a big guess, its either a typo ( more than likely), they're hot and he's trying off load them quick (stupid way to do it) or, as they are old tech, quite old, he's just trying to move them out for new stock...
Dunno, don't care. If I get them, great. If I don't I will simply get the refund and move on.

Dear Valued customer,

Now the interesting thing about this is that the Seller continually updated their add and change the quantity available to continue selling them... I can't imagine a Hacker doing that? The Hacker would just set the quantity to 500 or something?

They already have some poor feedback, eBay will shut them down if they get much more. that's what happened to Hobbsie a few years ago! The feedback caught p with him.

Dunno?? So the maths should be something like this.... If they normally sell it retail for $220 and work on a standard 100% markup the units cost them $110. We paid ow much? Say$50 including postage and handling they are probably out of pocket $60 or $70 per unit in total??? Maybe? What do you reckon?

Yeah I know, I reckon they are trying to make some of the loss by bumping up the price. In their email though they reckon they normally sell it for $229 or something didn't they?

Based on the maths above though I reckon they may well take the hit to anyone that makes a heap of noise and give refunds to those that go quietly. The gap is not a huge amount of money for them.

Yeah I agree, that's what I mean, the gap is not that great, if most take up the refund then he will likely take the hit on a few. And send the items. The email appears to be written by someone with English as a second language and they may well be the manufacturers to so the hit is getting less and less.

Their current feedback score sees them close to being closed by eBay anyway, they want this to go away.

Hi guys, I signed up to nissanpatrol yesterday sometime (i think? haha long days) and had been trawling the DIY section when i stumbled onto this thread.
Bought one myself last night, paid for it via paypal and have received the above message tonight (bugger!)

Wasn't happy but could understand that it would suck a55 to be on the receiving end even if it was just a typo (i'm not buying the hacked story).

But then I started having a read of the Seller performance standards on the ebay's website.
"When a buyer wins an item on eBay, the seller and buyer have entered a contract that both members are expected to honour. A seller's obligations are formal – such as sending the item that was described in the listing – as well as informal – such as providing good service." http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/seller-non-performance.html

I agree with old mate above, we write the one letter and those of us who have already paid for our light bars send it to him, by all accounts he's obligated to send the bars.
Those of us that haven't already paid, maybe out of luck on this one as no money has changed hands.

feel free to copy and paste into your ebay

Hi Carcamworld2012

No, sorry a refund will no be suitable.

Your ebay password is your responsibility and yours alone. If my account was hacked and the hacker purchased hundreds of your most expensive items you would be expecting payment wouldn't you, so why should it be different for me?
I understand you would not want to receive any extra negative feedback and that is not my intention. Negative feedback can be avoided by you the seller abiding by the seller performance standards in Ebay's policies, which state that when a buyer wins an item on eBay, the seller and buyer have entered a contract that both members are expected to honor.

As money has already been paid into your paypal account for the above listing I have honored my part of the contract and I expect your store to do the same. I will be expecting the item to be posted 1-2 day after payment verification as per your original listing.
Please note that if you fail to meet the minimum performance standards, your search placement is likely to be lowered, there maybe limits applied to your selling activity or you may be restricted from selling items on Ebay altogether.

I look forward to seeing this items status being updated as posted.

Sorry no compensation will be accepted as when I paid for this product we entered a binding contract, as I said earlier I expect to be notified of the product being posted on Tuesday.

Furthermore I understand you would not want to receive any negative feedback and that is not my intention. Negative feedback can be avoided by you the seller abiding by the seller performance standards in Ebay's policies, which state that when a buyer wins an item on eBay, the seller and buyer have entered a contract that both members are expected to honor.

Failing to receive confirmation of the item being posted by the end of Tuesday will result in a negative review and a formal complaint to ebay, also forwarding all communications between us including your claim that they notified you of your supposed hacking and took no further action.

Dear carcamworld2012,

Hi there,

That is unfortunate as you say if your account has been hacked. Please forward the correspondence from eBay Australia that confirmed that the account had been hacked and advise me also why Ebay, upon becoming aware that the account had been hacked did not restrict or remove the listing immediately? If your Credit Card got stolen the bank would immediately restrict its use.

My understanding is that we have entered a contract for Sale and supply of the item as per the rules of ebay. I have paid in good faith the full amount of your "Buy Now" plus the stipulated postage amount and i am clear that your obligation is to provide the item as per the listing. You note also that the item is located in Sydney and the delivery time is 2 to 7 days.

Please forward the despatch advice once the item is posted.

Kind Regards

I think that we all should write different emails but use the same basic points. I am a little concerned even about this thread. Id hate to jeopardise our chances if the seller can present a conspiracy theory to eBay and have us all bumped.??? Or Not?

I felt a little sorry for the seller if it was some Aussie Bloke trying to make a living on eBay but i think its a larger Chinese company and they can give a little back ;)

Hello,
Thank you again for quick reply.
We do want to ship the light to you as this price, which as a serious seller should do so. But actually we only have few light in stock, which someone hacked in,changing the price and also the quantity. It has been sold out very quickly at this price.Which we did not expect this situation happened.
Sincerely hope you could kindly understand our situation.and how about this,we make a full refund to you,and send AUD 20 as compensation, meanwhile,we would offer you 8% discount off for next purchase.

We really would love to resolve this problem with you,and understand your feeling about it.but please accept our apologies.

Sorry again for all the trouble and waiting for your reply

Best regards

Yeah, I think we're safe talking about it on here, i'm still standing by the contract between the buyer and the seller, nissanpatrol.com.au has nothing to do with it, but I see the concurn. For that matter I have no idea what ebay hongkong has to do with it either.

I felt a little bad too, but then i thought if someone hacked my ebay and bought a heap of sh1t, they'd all expect me to pay, and if i didn't they'd all call me a cee-you-n-t i'm sure. so bugger em.

I see on his store he has "Regular 35% of sales", so must have a bit of fat on some gear, so worth while seeing how far we get i'd say.

This is what i sent.

They said already that they have communications in Chinese .. So it's not a little Aussie bloke getting screwed . Don't give up this will be pocket $ for them

I just received my refund through PayPal and 30 dollars us( 15 for both transactions.... Could have held out for more but 30 us for doing nothing is cool)...
Pretty good service to be honest..

As stated I will not be accepting any compensation and expect a light bar to be posted on Tuesday as per your ebay advertisement/contract.

if you have none in stock why have I found you are you selling the same product still just for a higher dollar value?

If you can't provide the exact product you have sold me I will be willing to accept one of your other bars with the same specifications (dimensions, lumens, watts) or better as a replacement,
spot spread or combo light pattern is of no concern to me either.

I will not be accepting compensation.

They say they have none but continue selling them.. And one has sold for 400 bucks already

Would you mind waiting? or there is other suggestion, please kindly contact us

My reply just now ...

Surely you have a light bar of similar description you can send out by Tuesday as I don't want to wait weeks, so be it a dual 3watt like I have purchased or a dual 5 watt even a single row 10watt in a 52"bar. I don't know what you have in stock?.
I am just wanting you to honour your part of the contract as previously discussed by posting out my purchase or similar by the end of tuesday

Hello,

Thanks for your quick reply.

We are a honest and responsible seller, you can check our feedback. Our team is currently trying our best to figure out the problem. We are the biggest victims of this incident. Hopefully you could understand our situation and give us a hand.

We also understand your situation. The factory can not ensure when the new light will be available. If you would like to accept full refund and cancel this order, we will send extra AUD 15 to you as a compensation. Would that be OK?

We know you are a good customer and will help us to overcome the difficulties.

Yeah well some people like to push the boundaries of the eBay rules knowing that the seller has made a monumental mistake. Each to their own, don't bother me either way, If the seller didn't lie and just said "Sorry, we efféd up on the price" it would have been easier than saying their account was hacked. I knew it was to good to be true and just accepted the credit. If that were my store I would just live with the negative feedback some buyers would leave as anyone in their right mind would see why and look past it. As a business owner myself, I know how much this is going to hurt the seller.
Having said that. Good luck to anyone who is not accepting their bullchit and is actually get something out of it. Please do report back on what you got out of it though....:smiley_thumbs_up:

Yes I have pondered my actions in this situation. I am a firm believer in responsibility.

I have also considered the information being fed to me by the other party involved. The following are a few examples of the information I have received.

"We regret to tell you that Ebay has sent an warning email to us last night that our account has been HACKED since Friday night"

"we could send the proof email from ebay to you,but as we are Chinese Seller, the email was sent from Hongkong ebay in Chinese, would you also need it?"

"We really want to ship the lights to you, but actually we only have few in stock in Australia warehouse"

"The factory can not ensure when the new light will be available"

"We are a honest and responsible seller".

"Responsible" and "Honest" their words, have they been? My formed opinion is no. So should a irresponsible and dishonest company be allowed to reneg on a contract easily? I think not.

Just received this from EBay OZ

"Hi Mick,

Thanks for contacting eBay about the email that you received from rcamworld2012 that their account was hacked.

I understand that you're worried since the seller wants to refund you instead of honouring the sale.

Mick, I commend you for contacting us to help you in this situation. We appreciate the time and the effort that you took in reporting the said seller and I know how worrisome this situation is for any members alike having to deal with sellers with such an inappropriate selling practices right in front of your computer.
We expect sellers to deliver a consistently high level of buyer satisfaction. When a buyer wins an item on eBay, the seller and buyer have entered a contract that both members are expected to honour. It is a seller's obligation to honour the sale and provide good service. Sellers who don't fulfill their obligations may be in breach of their contract.

I want to assure you that proper investigation and thorough monitoring will be done on the member’s account, and will sanction them after we confirm their violation. I understand how much you really wanted to know what actions we took against this member, however I am unable to share details of this action and the results of our investigation as we also want to keep your account's privacy secured.
We appreciate that you have taken the time to bring this to our attention. Let me assure you that we've looked into your complaint seriously.
Have a great day ahead of you and thank you for choosing eBay Mick. We also wish you success in your future transactions.
Sincerely,
Aria A.

I have also received a compensation amount of only 10dollars.

I have emailed back to say I will accept their offer of refund +15.
Not really interested in sending them broke.

Each to their own, but food for thought.

How much do you think they actually pay for these lightbars, they probably order one or two hundred at a time via alibaba or similar. I'd be really surprised if they're paying over the Chinese equivalent $120 AUD each delivered to an australian warehouse, assuming they even have one.

Assuming they do actually send a Lightbar, who knows if they actually will, they might be out of pocket ~$120 for the bar and ~$30 postage from china? so all up around $150? be a fair guess.

Now they have around the 10500 feedback in 27 months, so about 389 items a month.

if they're paying ~ 150 to get one of these bars to australia and they're selling them for $242 with free freight, that's a 38% GP minimum (remember some of the advertivments have the same bar for $400+. A pretty freaking healthy GP anyway. So lets say the average price of the total of item's they've sold has been $30, they've pocketed $11.50 of that $30 as profit. 11.50 X 389 = $4473 / month cleared. Above average australian wage, but well above average wage in china as its around $AUD7573 per year. Guessing the average australian makes $40,000/year, old mate in china is making the australian equilivant to $AUD 283,512 per year.

Of course none of this assumes there may be more then one person working for carscamsalehacker2012 or whatever he's called, and I took guesses on a fair amount of these figures, however I feel these average prices would be pretty accurate, so the final figure should only vary 10-20% at absolute most.

So like I said, each to their own and I have absolutly no issue with anyone getting their money back... Butttttt if you truly didn't want to hurt his GP, should have just taken your $43 back, not the extra $15 as well?

You wont get the lights at all for that price, its a typo error and legally seller doesnt have do compensate anything, besides whats to compensate? all the seller is obliged to do is issue a full refund!

I would be very surprised if they are even making 10% GP on this really. It's such a flooded market and would be so cut throat... selling for $229 I wouldn't think they'd pay much less that $210 if any.

Not according to ebay's policies?

You don't have to accept a refund, once you commit to buy you have a contract with the seller, once the seller is paid he has an obligation to send goods that match the description.

Yes ebay can't physically force them to send anything, but if they don't ebay can stop them from selling, it's called a seller non-conformance. :)

But I do agree they don't have to add compensation, but they're doing that to sweeten the deal so they don't either have to; 1 send product, or 2 suffer the repercussions of ebay's wrath.

Fair call, I'll make an alibaba account and ask a few wholesalers about pricing on 200 off 50" 300W lightbars FOB china.
Not that I am doubting your guesstimation, as I have really no idea, but would like to have at least some vague idea on what they wholesale for.
will report back with any info worthy of interest.

Didn't william wallace say "They can take our lightbar, but they'll never take our moneyyyyy*!!"

*unless a claim is lodged after the 45 day cutoff period.

Ive had a couple of emails back and forth, I havent threatened anything and have just asked for a different light bar in replace of the 52" as they have run out of that stock. They seem quite helpful at the moment so I could hopefully have myself two shiney new light bars soon enough :)

Nice idea Meh
hopefully they don't limit your choice to little 8" ones or something. Will have to re-check out the store to see what others they offer....unless they're hacked prices as well....

I have a re-sellers price list here from China, he would have to have a lot of 52" bars to get them for $220
Price wise its on the more watts you buy the cheaper it will be, can't see him having 300 in stock,
just not feezable, I received a full refund from the dude, the person who made the typo is now not working
I"d imagine

Here's some fun.

You know how we each bought a bar, and it said the Australian warehouse said it had stock? When a bar was bought it modifies the listing. You can see each time the listing is modified. Match that up with your time of purchase.

And see how far back that it is only the quantity in stock that has changed, vs a change of price.

Yes I was watching the listing and the seller was continually updating the listing throughout the night and the only change was to the quantity available. I can't imagine that that was an auto update setting??. I even commented on that earlier in the thread. I was surprised at that time that they had updated the quantity but had not bothered to review the listing?? Just jumped on the sales excitedly.

I have not sent any further emails but will sit here for a day or so and let it play out. Not a fan of ripping anyone off by any stretch but regardless of the math, if this guy is a Chinese Seller trading on eBay.au it is very very likely that he is buying direct from the factory and probably paying $50 a unit. I doubt very much that this error has him on his knees. The potential for him to get dumped by eBay though is a much greater problem.
