I thought I would post up the details for the trip I am doing next month to bury my mums ashes at the top of Billy Goats track on the Anzac day weekend.

I will edit this first page when I get the exact details when they are finalised...

We will be base camping and 4wding the tracks in the area with Billy Goats being done on the Saturday to see to my mum..

My whole family will be coming on this trip.

Those interested in doing this trip are welcome as this is also I social trip for mates and fellow 4wders..

Drew and Winnie are heading up the details of this trip as I barely know the area.

We're heading to Collins Flat. About 20 minutes north of Dargo on the Upper Dargo Rd. You can also enter via Matheson Spur track or Stock Route Track. GPS coordinates are 37°20.396'S, 147°17.836'E.

Edit: Updated information.... Many are heading up on the Thurday at different times and we are staying at Collins Flat about 20 minutes North of Dargo on the Upper Dargo Rd

As soon as Drew gives me exact coordinates I will post up here..

Also Blue rag will be the place I will be burying my mum as it is easier to stop with many cars and sneak off into the bush.

Mags just said that she will sit out Billy goats??? and hang about camp??

Winnie
16th March 2014, 05:45 PM
Like I said, Billy goats is not a hard track by any means. There was a Suzuki Vitara completely standard there. But the view is spectacular and there is heaps of room up top to sort things out.
Billy Goats is a bloody awesome track we've done much harder tracks but this is awesome, then there's the obligatory walk to the pinnacles.

Drewboyaus
16th March 2014, 06:43 PM
Winnie's right mate, it's not hard. A bit lumpy in spots and a spectacular drive but not difficult. Not to be missed.
Personally, I rate it ahead of Blue Rag Range Tk.

We done it back near ends of last year. Was quite rocky and Lil tricky in spots. His with us in a comp truck done it at 70kmh lol. Hit the ground every 10mtrs or so and launched again. Spewing we missed seeing it haha. But that's the gq's for ya haha

Yes it's the same week as Easter. If you take 3 days annual leave on the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays you get a 10 day break for the price of 3. There will be sh1t loads of people up there I reckon. The building industry will have an RDO as well making it a 2 day, 10 day break for some.

I don't want to make any promises to you Jonathan, I'd love to come mate and am watching with interest.

Hey Drew how far from Dargo is this place you are thinking of? Post up the location? Or PM the people going?

A trip to the Dargo pub for a meal is a must for this trip guys! The meals there are fantastic. The publicans Tom and Christine have been there for about 8 months and have really changed the place for the better, the old publicans were giving the place a bad name.

I will have my new drawers for this trip and should have the sub tank in by then too.

Hey Drew how far from Dargo is this place you are thinking of? Post up the location? Or PM the people going?

It's about 20 or so minutes up the Upper Dargo road from the pub. It's far enough away that we should find some space but seeing Matt mention it's 1 day leave for a 10 day break it is going to be sooooo busy. Going to have to think that most peeps won't stay there for the whole 10 days and may head back to Melbourne once Easter Monday is done.....here's hoping.

Loving it!!!! Everything was booked way in advance for Easter but all the campers were coming back midweek and available for the following long weekend so hoping things may not be as busy as they could be?

I shall start the list. Please copy and add your name if you are coming. The proposed camp location is at Collins Flat about 20 minutes North of Dargo on the Upper Dargo Rd. It is a nice spot on the river with a couple of drop dunnies (they are a bit old but serviceable). It is normally far enough away from Dargo that there shouldn't be too many people.
I expect we will meet there (with some travelling in convoy) on Friday. I will try to get there as early as possible to ensure we get a good spot.

I'll prolly think about heading in thurs night. We will be coming in from Wodonga side so dont really wanna tackle that friday morning then have a full day driving also.

Where at on the Murray mate??

Strathmerton...we have our special spot where you need a basic 4wd to get in.

Keeps all of the young commodore teenagers away and just mostly prado families..lol

Quiet spot, 50m wide x 200m sand front and most people camp away from the banks but we go across the sand and camp right next to the river!

10min from town and hot showers...awesome!

Shouldn't need any spares man. The tracks we will be driving will be entertaining but not that hard......I don't expect anyone to be breaking stuff.
I'm with Winnie on happy hour.....it's every day in the high country.....

GPS coordinates are 37°20.396'S, 147°17.836'E. See the dropped pin in the top right hand corner of the map

Having the family along, I probably won't go too "hardcore" as such and keeping in mind that Westy is a high country novice I was thinking of keeping it fun (hopefully) and interesting without being too hard.
South Bassalt Knob used to be a good scary but drivable track but was graded last year.......it's steeeep but flat now (apparently).
The day we do Blue Rag Range could be be a morning run up the High Plains Rd to Blue Rag Range Tk, then back down Bassal Knob Tk, we could go around Brewery Ck Track (views are great, but I've not driven it b4) or continue down Bassalt Knob into Talbotville, around crooked river track, up Bulltown Spur and then back along McMillan Rd to Dargo with an opportunity to have a quick look around the old Grant township site......That is a big days driving.
Second day would be a loop south west of Dargo to Billy Goats Bluff........haven't quite wrapped my bonce around the details of that yet.....would be cool to divert up to Herne Spur Tk and down Wombat Range Tk.......but that is also a massive drive and not sure my kids would be up for something so loong 2 days in a row.
Your thoughts?

To say I'm jealous is a massive understatement. Even with a view view like this right now id rather be up in the cold of the high country. Call me crazy.
Nice and sunny 27c here on the GC right now.

Well it's been an up and down week and right now I am crippled with back pain to the point of unbearable but the show must go on..

On Friday George spent his holiday working on Drews car fitting a new clutch followed on the Saturday pulling apart the front on my engine to get at an oil leak from the oil pump, being a holiday weekend he tried to think of every possibility but an o'ring the shape of Australia was to put a stop to things so no car till Tuesday at best.

George and his dad worked miracle to find an O'ring that had a 2 week wait from Nissan and late that night I had my car back...wahoo!!!

I have to thank all the boys from HT's for helping as George was even going to offer his car to me if as he knew the importance of this trip... which brings me to the whole point of this trip in the first place and that is to say good bye to my mum and have some mates along the way to enjoy such a journey.

I am really looking forward to this trip but it is kind of bitter sweet as to its reason..... I need a good spot (top of blue rag) and I think I want to do it on the Friday as Mags will stay at camp on the Saturday..

I have to take lots of photo's for my family that cannot be there...... where we are going is a long way from where my mum grew up in Bolton... moved to Canada then back to England then to Australia where she struggled to come to terms... she hitch hiked across the nullarbor plain twice and always said to me that before I see the world I should see this country as it is so beautiful..

Now I have to make sure I dont forget her as she is by the front door on top of the piano.... mental note.

Glad to have so many mates coming along and going to meet some new faces on the way... should be good kids Lets have a good time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely mate. And that has never left my mind.
I'm sure there will be plenty of hands to to take pics of the thing, and to get your mug in the crowd to..

I guess you'll want time at the spot to make such a spot worthy, so hopefully drew can accommodate.

Really looking forward to it..

Ow and stop ya sooking, or a punch in the neck for you..

I feel for you BA .... back pain is a killer, and doesn't ever seem to go away quickly ... just gotta get on with it.

The weather isn't looking too bad for this weekend except maybe a little cold.

You are going to love it, and that will help to make the pain go away

Yes. We have planned for a pub meal.
Maybe Friday night if the day is a long one. Will atleast make the evening easier, but any night the wife doesn't have to cook will make her happy

Fuck I am spewin I cant be there with you Jonathan but the lack of income and big tax bills have made it impossible for me at this point in time. To rub salt in the wounds they mentioned on the weather report that there is a good chance of snow on the Vic Alps this weekend.
Have fun and stay safe to all who are attending.
