Hey mate, welcome to the forums.

Looks like a nice setup mate.. the camper trailer is a great thing. I virtually had the same subwoofer box as yours and I just recently replaced it with a slimmer one. It was a really worth doing it. I've gained more space and it's not as intrusive. I'm still going to mount mine behind the back seats out of the way, but for now it gives me some more room. Would be worth looking into. My slim box was $70 from Autobarn.

Could you tell us more about all the radios? Looks like quite a bit of gear there. What do you do with them all? :D

mudduck
27th June 2010, 07:29 PM
Thanks guys, taken a few years to create, I am going to get a slimmer sub as ive built another set of shelves above the draws (pix to come soon).

Radio gear consists of an icom ic208h's vhf/uhf dual bands amateur radio, simoco 45 watt uhf cb, Gme remote mount uhf cb, Icom IC706mkiig hf/vhf/uhf amateur radio.

Done a few more mods lately, Removed the bulky sub for a Soundstream stealth slimline, added some shelves to above draws for recovery gear and such, also stuff you cant see such as extended rear diff breather and moved radio bodies from under the seats into the cupboard in front of the roller draws to get them up in case water ever gets in.

If you don't mind me asking, how have you fixed the handheld UHF to the left of the centre dash surround? Is it easily removable?

Cheers,

Hi Darren the hand held slides onto an old mobile phone mount that was remaining from the old days, its slid off too easily so ive wrapped some electrical tape around it to make it sit there better so now it stays put until you take it out. Yes it still come off easily when you need it.

Nice! Where can I get a job like that?

We're thinking of picking up an Ultimate - boy they hold their resale value well! Better than a car!

Thought we'd try to get one a couple of years old but they're nearly the same price as new, so we might go that way instead. Have yet to find an owner with any major gripes about them - that says a lot I reckon

Hi mate, yep they do hold their value, we love ours, its never given us any trouble, tows well, looks good and is extremely comfortable. Ultimate's after sale service is second to none, nothing is too hard or too trivial. We couldn't be happier with it.

Purchased an Ultimate today - 2nd hand 2007 Elite, a very tidy piece of work. The previous owner was upgrading to the latest model Elite Gold. It looks amazing - although I can hardly fit the Patrol, camper and bits in the garage now. Can't wait to get it out into the wilderness and give it a run. Will hopefully get onto the Ultimate forum soon. Loved your pics on the Ultimate website too!

Cheers

Hi all been a while so I thought I'd do an up date.
I now have custom side rails and steps, makes it look cool IMO and black wheels for when I'm getting it muddy.

Thanks mate, the draws are one of my favourite things on the truck, especially the slide out water tank.

Hi Mudduck, a bit off topic, but I notice you switched from the Coopers to the KM2's... How is that going for you?

Hi Ben, mate I still run the coopers for daily driving and weekend camping. The KM2s are for the hard stuff. I had them on for the NSW High country trip earlier this year and they were awesome. I dont expect to have them on again until my Cape trip next year. But the 3000ks Ive done on them has shown me they are a great tyre. The Cooper ST Maxx I use generally are also brilliant for an all terrain. I also run them on my Prado but we dont talk about that here lol.

Been a while but I did a little bit of work on the big girl today. On a recent trip to Gunnabooka National Park (near Bourke), I discovered that the corrugations had taken there toll on the winch control box mount under the bonnet, so I decided to put it back on the bullbar (even though its not my 1st choice) but at least now it should be "corro" proof. Also got new plates (again) recently and a cool sticker on the back.

Here's the pix http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee308/vk2ud/The%20Mighty%20GU/IMG_0617.jpg (http://s234.photobucket.com/user/vk2ud/media/The%20Mighty%20GU/IMG_0617.jpg.html)
