View Full Version : December ’13 Photo Competition - ‘WATER’

Cuppa
30th November 2013, 10:24 PM
This month’s competition topic has been chosen by November’s winner Fracster.
His chosen topic is WATER - Sea, fresh or tap a topic open to wide interpretation. I expect we might see some very different entries. Good luck to all, & to anyone who hasn’t previously participated I encourage you to do so.

Monthly Photo Competition guidelines (Please read)

* Each month a new competition thread will commence & all forum members are invited to submit their photos .

* Maximum of three entries per person.

* Multiple entries should be made in separate posts

* Each entry should consist of a single photograph & a short description only

* Comments pertinent to entries are encouraged, but please do not use this thread to engage in banter

* Photos MUST have been taken by the member posting the photos or members of their party.

* Any photo which has been a winner will not be eligible for re-entry in any future competition.

* Please do not post photos that are not entries in the competition.

* The winner of the month's competition gets to choose the following month's competition topic.

* All members are encouraged to vote for the photos they think should win. This will be done by pressing the 'Thanks' button located underneath each post. Toward the end of the month the date & time of competition closure will be announced. Following this time the thread will be locked & the 'Thanks' counted to determine the winner.

* 'Thanks' may be added or withdrawn at any time during the month up until the competition is closed.
You are welcome to thank as many different posts as you wish!

* In the event of a tied first place I will add a casting vote, except in circumstances where my entry is one of the tied ones, in which case I will withdraw my entry.

*Inappropriate photos eg, sexual, racist, violent etc are unacceptable & should not be posted.

Thanks for your cooperation

Location - Kitchen Sink..

This theme was set by my wife's forum group, which was refraction.
The picture is a water drop, which is in focus to show what is behind it being refracted threw the drop.
Wife and I spent several hours to get 4 good shots. This was my favorite, but she chose a different background.
Exposure- 1/200
Aperture- f/8.0
Focal length- 250
Iso- 1600
Enjoy

PS, needs to be viewed on computer to admire, a phone does it no justice..

Im still learning, so ill get the wife to fill those details in in the morning.
One thing we did discuss was the need for a speed flash. You'll pic a little "ghost" shadow under the main drop, and that's due to the limited settings on the inbuilt flash.
So she said..

Some fantastic entries coming in thick & fast. Great to see.
Don’t forget that if you don’t have any suitable entries yet, you have a whole month to get out & about in your Patrol to take some pics. Maybe try experimenting with your favourite watery location at different times of the day, or even staying home & seeing the difference that different lighting conditions make on that garden spray. The possibilities are endless. Don’t forget that everyone gets a chance to vote so voting criteria is personal. Some will go for the technically good shots, others will go for content ...... so you don’t need a fancy camera. Give it a shot, the more the merrier.

Toy*** aside ............... that looks insane!

And it was, this is taken in November 2008, the car was not finished, the essentials were thrown on the car on a Tuesday evening/Tuesday night, this photo is taken on the way home on Sunday. We were 1 of 2 cars that crossed the river in this place, we found a better crossing a bit further up-stream.

Since i already have 2 photos up this month, then I will only post links to 3 more photos that show better how insane this crossing was.

Thanks everyone for your entries & votes again this month, & thanks to Fracster for his choice of topic.

Many top entries but one clear winner.

Congratulations go to Nisshead for his eerie shot of the foggy Lake Eucumbene. 1st place.
In second place Westy’s stunning water drop
& 3rd place, myself with Millers Point, WA.

I’d also like to make special mention of Trekster’s two non entries. I reckon his shots of the taps running were excellent.

Well done everyone.
Nisshead, if you can contact me as soon as you can to let me know your choice of topic for our January comp, I’ll get it up & running.
