Shackle? Which one?

Hello
Just bend and break my old shackle while towing another car.
What to buy instead? My old shackle was 22mm/4.5T, noname brand, maybe chinese.
Can you share what are you using? What brand, what diameter?

Hiya D,

Many Shackles (probably) 95% are generic so different "boxed for sale" brands are usually the same shackle anyway. The retail company simply buy in bulk and pack them in a box with their Logo/Brand on the box.

I suggest you buy from a Rigging, Lifting, Crane supplier. Here in Australia they are usually heaps cheaper than 4WD shops.

Just make sure they are a "rated" shackle. Rated Shackles will have the WWL cast on them (and 4.5T is fine). The Pin will also be a larger dia than the Bow. IE if the Bow is 22mm then the Pin will be 25mm or more. Usually the shackle will be described as a 19/22mm 4.5T and 19 is the body dia and 22 is the pin dia.

If the Pin and Bow are the same size it will very likely not be a rated shackle.

Thank you... My old shackle was 19/22mm 4.5T. I think I will buy the same from crane supplier. Found it much cheaper then from 4WD shop.

crikey, my shackles are probably the same as yours :-) they are certainly marked the same Maybe you got a dud shackle?
