Hey peeps, car has ticked over 300,000km and was thinking about what needs servicing... Might look at replacing the timing chain???

Anyone got recommendations for what should be done?

Anyone? Is anyone even close to 300,000km on their ZD30 motor?

My opinion, the chain is good for the life of the motor so I would not be doing it. I've never heard of a ZD30 dying from timing chain failure.

Mate, don't underestimate the 3.0l motor.
There's been plenty that have done more then 500,000+km with and without any mods

mmm so chain is good... okay thats a relief... I was thinking that over the life of the motor it will stretch as it wears and cause the valve timing to move a little... The motor sounds sweet as and has a full service history so its easy to see that it has been looked after... I would like ot find someone in sydney with a GU IV ZD30 engine / car and swap driving eachothers cars for a tic to see the difference... maybe even a 0-100 race on the freeway to see if mine is good or bad by comparison...

Simon,
I sold an 89 gq42 at 400K and replaced it with an 08 zd30 and have been packing them re the expected life of the donk.
Thanks for the good news. Brilliant! Whatever you're doing, keep it up.

just driving it... haha... got some oil for it today... Had to buy it from Nissan as no one around here stocks 10-40 grade diesel oil... Go figure! Regular servicing and they keep on going on...

Simon.
Right there. Kept my own records and did all my servicing and I reckon if you follow the schedule on replacements etc. you should just about go forever or until metal/plastic/rubber fatigue catches up with you.

i have just been buying my oil from nissan directly... I looked at auto one etc etc but they rarely stock the correct grade firstly and secondly they are the same price as nissan... so might as well use their oil and avoid problems me thinks..
