Great Video, would love to do.. I'm still wary of driving in sand, I guess coming from the UK we don't have much of it. You should see me driving in the rain thou...

Interesting point - I usually have a flag tacked on to the spare wheel. Not sure why I didn't bother for this trip

Wish I was there :) Miss the sand. Mud is messy.

Where? - It's the United Arab Emirates, about 50KM South West of Dubai.
Flags, well jeeps and other lesser 4WD vehicles (Land Cruisers spring to mind) tend to get trapped in sand bowls and sometimes struggle to get out, they will go round and round in circles trying to climb out.
This often gets embarrassing when Patrols drop in to the bowl to play. Hence the flags acts as a warning - sort of like "Be careful - Bowl occupied"

So Patrols don't really need the flags cos they don't stay in the bowls long enough, but the other guys get a complex if we don't fit them too :D

All that sand/dust and no snorkel? I know they are for water crossing but they also get the cleaner air into the motor.

Yep, they get cleaner air into the motor - slowly.
The driving here is a lot different to the Oz scene - it's all dunes and a lot of it is pretty fast.
The requirements are for torque & horsepower, a snorkel is just too restrictive in the input side.
Having said that, the stock 4.8 air intake setup is pretty bad, the feed from the wheel arch just ensures that the stock air filter gets blocked in record quick time. I used to carry a spare (new) air filter on every trip.
Now I've replaced stock with custom K&N filter and modified intake tubing. It gets the air directly from the radiator grill and throughput is much better. With this setup a snorkel would be pointless.
I'll try to post up a photo
