Gday I'm looking at one of these units but there seems to be a lot of problems with them,is there anyone that has got one of these that has had a good run with it ??is there any other units that anyone could recommend?Would mostly use the street mapping, but the off-road maps would be good too.thanks.

Not personally as friends of mine had their's replaced 3 times after numerous arguements with VMS that they decided to throw it in the bin.
Plenty of others out there like the HEMA navigator, MudMAPS M7, Navman with topo mapping right down to cheap units running Sygic or Igo and add Ozi / Memory Maps to them.
Depends on what you want out it and how much you're prepared to pay

Some of the navman models will do dual navigation for a very modest upgrade price. The Chinese imports are also holding their own these days.

Bought a Chinese double din off ebay a couple of years ago. Less than a third of the price of a vms, runs on and off road sotware and is still going great. Three guys in our club bought the expensive in dash gps and all three have turned up their toes. With the price I paid for mine, if it died tomorrow I would immediately buy another of whatever the latest version is. After a couple of years there are bigger and better models around anyway.

Thanks for all the replies,I have got one of the double din multimedia units, and after speaking to me old mate Steve aka"bakes" last night ,it turns out that it has ozi explorer and hema maps installed on it,just need to work out how to open the program? So I might just get a new windscreen mounted one for my every day street navigation, either another Garmin or might give TomTom a go,I think they both do a 6" screen model.the dash mounted one has got the street navigation to but I find it easier on top of the dash.

On the 2 din unit, when you select the gps function it will give you the option for on or off road navigation

Unless I'm doing something wrong mine doesn't do that, when I push the nav' button it goes straight to the street mapping.

They were very unreliable for a while - but they are getting better. Can't fault mine - touch wood!

Have a look in the tools/setup section, there will properly be a GPS file path section that selects the program to load when you press the navigation button, you might find a small program that has igo and ozi buttons which will then give you a choice hope this helps
