View Full Version : What do you use to gain access to working under the bonnet?

I know RLI built himself a set of wooden steps to use while working under the bonnet. I think there is an army copyright infringement action against him :)

I'm using a double milk crate that's about as safe as an accident waiting to happen!

What are you guys using ?

2 lumps of 12 x 6 oregon.
(was cut at an angle to make up a pair ramps)
and if that's to short I lay a board across the pair for another lift up.
couple of milk crates and a sleeper for a perch also works

My giraffe legs are ok...

Careful using crates and chairs, changing the rear oil filter is pretty far down the bay and if you lean too much forward the crate gets away from you and you can chin yourself on the front quarter...LMAO

Take the bonnet off and sit in the engine bay. Lol

I stand on the bullbar and if I really need something in the back of the engine section, I'll find a stable spot to kneel in the engine bay. Very painful especially like the other day when I adjusted the valve clearances and the engine needs to be hot. Need to invest in a step ladder I think.

Ah the good old days when you did that on the FJ Holdens.
Tappet Cover off, Motor running and adjusting Tappets whilst sitting on Mudguard with Feet in Engine Bay.

They don't make Cars like that anymore (Thank God) LOL

Ive got an 80L esky that is the perfect height. Failing that, climb all over it, on the wheel, on the bull bar, what ever it takes to get up high enough
