That's impressive I don't think it'll fit on my wagon though

Edit: what sorta price range ?

Cuppa

Think I read $31k for base model & around $40k fully optioned!
Some great ideas for the diy builder though. Especially the full height indoor living space with most things accessible from both inside & out.

Well fark me.. That is insane.. Some very clever design features there that's for sure..
And at $40thou that's a good price imo.. You'd struggle to build a diy Job at that price...

What an awesome setup, really well thought out. I like the way everything is accessible from both inside and out.

Nice looking camper pity they exposed the clips and doors on the side I've seen one of those loose every protruding item on both sides.

I'd love one, but not real sure about how they secure the loads, stove, basket drawers etc. Would make a real mess if not able to be "tied down" in some way.

As for the inside toilet, we would have a few rules, Rule 1 1s OK, Rule 2 2s not OK, Rule 3 you use it you empty it (I can outlast the Mrs no probs:))

Well thought out, but seems marketed at old people.

Alrighty! Short n blonde has her heart set on a wedgie! No,no, that don't sound right! Ah yes, a wedgetail slide on!
420kg dry weight, yeah good. Nearly 48k base model, Holy effin shoit!
So before capitulating completely, (yes it will happen, always does) does anyone now have first hand experience with these cash swallowing monsters!
Are they as good as they appear to be on paper and in promo vids? Can I still tow the toys with it strapped to the back of the Patrol?????
Info please folks!

I just watched the more recent promo video for the first time. These things really are so well thought out, very obviously by an enthusiast who has refined it through both personal use & from feedback. Regarding the prices - although a lot of money they compare very favorably to the likes of the Tvan & offer more facilities.

The fully optioned dry weights are getting up there, probably need to add a further 200kg for water food & other belongings - over 800kg fully optioned, but a towed boat could be utilised to rationalise weight distribution. Nevertheless most vehicles would need upgraded suspension, which has the potential to be harsher than preferred when the camper is not on.

I must admit there is more canvas & poles than I'd prefer, with most of it needing to be set up each time. Our Tvan has similar, but we chose it because you can do quick setups without any poles & canvas at all if you wish, with several options between 'minamalist' & full awnings. The 'price' we pay is less sophistication of the fully set up camper, in particular the inability to cook indoors in crap weather & mozzie plagues.

Intended use is everything. If travelling every day for long periods canvas & poles are a pain. Much less of an issue for short breaks or trips of just a few weeks.

We thought long & hard about the idea of a slide on. The promise of having a functional ute at home, & the ability to 'unhitch' the camper whilst away both seemed very desirable. Having talked to several folk who owned a variety of slide ons (not a Wedgetail though) I found that taking the thing off whilst travelling was something that rarely, if ever was done. Sounds good, but is not quite as easy & straightforward as to be something undertaken regularly. Weight-wise it makes more sense to have something mounted direct to the chassis, but then you don't have a useable ute at home unless you're happy to switch around trays etc. Needing to do so takes away any thought of spontaneous weekend escapes.

I reckon if you have appropriate suspension/load carrying capacity on a two seater ute & accept the compromises that this style of camper has (& every style of camper has compromises of one sort or another) then it's hard to imagine a better design ....... but you do need to be very clear about the implications of the compromises & not let the 'dream' which is being marketed cloud your judgement.... just like with any camper.

That looks like the duck's nuts. I have seen a camper very similar and it had push-button auto levelling. it was on a Yota but he was towing a 14-15 ft tinny. He rocked up, unhitched the boat trailer, backed in, pulled a couple of pins and pushed the button. Within 30 seconds the camper was clear of the tray and was levelling itself. For the life of me, I can't remember the brand so you can compare wieghts.

My RB30S is simple, just like its owner.

Cuppa I hear you about the ropes n pole routine but already do that with the little camper trailer so no real biggie, most stops are 3-4 days.
I do like an exploratory drive wherever we do camp, so "sliding" on off quickly and easily is a must look into matter whatever brand is eventually given the nod.
You're spot on about the thought process on this. Someone had the thinkin cap jammed on hard although can't help believing shorty may be a little overwhelmed by the bells n whistles!
There are some innovative alternatives about. Off to have a look at Trayon/Traytec later this month, made on Sunny coast so is a pleasant day trip to boot!

mudnut that one sounds like something I'd cough up the best part of 50k for. Self lifting/levelling. Shoit hot! Keep thinkin brother!!!!

At the end of it all I still need to be towing with the rig, so a lot of the decision will have to factor that in!

Heya TD! Missed you in my last post. Overhang isn't really an issue, Tray on New Pig is at 2400 and the bulky stuff in the camper proper is forward over or in front of drive.
Do agree with you about the cost of sleeping in a tent bit! One thing I refuse to do is hug the bitumen, leave that for DXGrunt, lol.
Again, I do want to pull a boat so a van or trailer style camper is not on.
Good to see you feeling better, missed your 'newsy' posts while you were off net.

Haha! If it were a tent, thats what it would just be.
But some of the prices now for campers is just highway robbery though. I spotted one that was 70k.
Now thats just wrong.

Ive watched these things grow from early 6x4 trailers with a Whirly on top
that gave you two bunks and a single bed, very cosy indeed. then they came out with 30ft caravans
that have a wading depth of 1mtr, Agree the prices are ridiculas,
They market the cashed up retiree that plonks down a big pile of $$$$$$$$
and buy a Y62 or 200s no idea how to drive it and then hook up a over priced TENT lol

Did no one notice his "piece" lol

Costs are unlimited in building these things.

Normal business expenses of the premises, permits, compliance, insurance, staff, super, taxes, sick leave, holiday leave plus loading, GST, admin staff, office fit out, web sites, workshop fit out, specific tooling the list goes on and on.

Then the research and development from the original idea, prototypes, testing, compliance, sourcing components and material with costing in mind.

Next is marketing and advertising, attending shows to check out the opposition or display your own, owning a display stand that is portable, transport to shows assembly and dismantle display, staff it on weekends too.

Workshop and display transport vehicles, demonstration stock, etc.

Sales and repairs staff or sub contractors across the country.

Hopefully you don't get sued for Public Liability, Professional Indemnity, Worker Compensation, vehicle related accidents.

Really don't know why you would bother trying to go into a manufacturing business in such a competitive market.

Then you might turn a profit!
