Tough looking shorty mate.

If I had the bucks my toy would be a Patrol shorty.

I just need the GU Ute for work and towing but if i ever come across some funds I would definatly go a shorty any day of the week.

If you ever do turbo charge it you could bounce your way through some great tracks.

Yeah that was actually a video of the 2009 Otway trip I ran on MudRhino forum (majority of the guys on there are into the harder style of 4x4n), I ran the same trip again this year and that particular track was was even harder now compared to that video

Think it was around 6-7hrs to complete the track and majority of it was winching :D

Thats getting stuck into it....thanks for posting that vid, I showed my brother (big mistake) & he's now insisting on us taking that trip.

Some how I would need to spend some money on the Mav before I would put her in that.

I just put the 55w Hi/Low beam HID's in the other night, have to say they make useless gq lights turn into daylight

I'm still waiting on the next 2 sets to come from china they are 55w spot beams they should be here this week

Patch697 - Yeah didn't want to spend a fortune on HID's so just got some off ebay and for the price they work well

Trolatron - Yeah I didn't want to go the whole hog and mount a heap of lightforces etc on the top to get broken by trees etc, so thats why I went the cheapo narva's

Looking good mate, Yes Deppler's is getting tougher and tougher. a couple of those holes are so bloody short and deep that they are a real challenge. A long wheel base scab's its nose before it is fully in the things.

Looks great mate, we will have to go for a drive next time.

And how many hours to clean it? What's the name of your high pressure cleaner??

And how many hours to clean it? What's the name of your high pressure cleaner??

There is NOTHING like Otways mud!!!! Thick and sticky. I can spend $50 at the drive through without putting soap on mate, most of it on my knees trying to clear the stuff stuck to the drive line. Unbelievable. I am just about to build a big shed for the toys and will be putting 20,000lt in tanks behind it and an area at the front for a wash bay to clean the 4b at home.

GQ4.2
11th July 2010, 08:52 AM
yeah there is nothing better than going to a car wash and seeing the look on the attendants face when you leave the wash bay :D

im thinking of rigging up a trailer for next year with a petrol powered pressure cleaner to wash the vehicles before we leave there as there is a water tap at stevo falls i can connect up to, plus im sure that will keep the parks and greenys happy

I used to carry around a little 5hp pump with a fire hose which blasted mud off underneath.

But you can only really hook it up to larger water supplies like the local towns fill up points so prob wouldnt work on a standard tap outlet.

Unless there was a tank or you bought up a 500l one or something.

It really works well under the chasis, etc.

Quick Update:

Getting a DTS turbo kit within the next 2 weeks, was going to get a JPC kit but at $4900 to get the same power as a DTS will deliver I couldnt justify spending an extra $1900 for that (a GQ pump will only deliver enough fuel for 100kw!)

You will love the MTQ / DTS kit. I have no regrets. the $1900 saving you could put into a pump rebuild and get it really pumping!!

GQ4.2

ripped out the hotdog so its now 3" straight through from the turbo

Mounted the Boost Gauge & EGT Gauge on the pillar, turbo currently runs 12psi boost

Just got a GU 3ltr Airbox for $80, also got a 600x300x75 intercooler which will be top mounted with 2x 10" thermo fans on it to pull air through the intercooler and a Turbosmart Boost controller

To get the Airbox to work I will have to moddify the stainless steel snorkel

GQ4.2
3rd October 2010, 06:44 PM

I haven't been on here in a while but just a bit of an update

Recently installed a ARB front Locker

Went on an extreme trip in the otways and blew my alternator on the first hole on a night run and had to be tow trucked home.,..

So I'm now going to ditch the air con in favor of twin alternators, not just so I have a spare but so I can crank out more amps when winching, im staying with 12v

Also got a mate who is handy with a angle grinder and welder etc so the shorty will be soon chopped into a ute (styleside) and after that a gage will be installed, rear locker will be last..
