I agree that the RB30 box is too light. I have just changed out a gearbox, because the input bearing and synchro on 2nd gear karked it. I wanted to upgrade to the TB42 box but I was advised not to, because it would sap too much power to just run the gearbox.

I was almost about to reply to this then i noticed the date of the OP, figured he's probably sorted a gearbox of some kind by now. But for future reference, those that find this thread via search. The RD28 5 speed will fit to an Rb30 and having seen the insides of both, the rd's box looks considerably stronger.

I would have though a twin cam and turbo'd rb30 would have plenty of power to get even a tb42 box spinning...
