When I saw the title I was thinking this would be in April 2015 and would be a bit early for me.

I am all over August!!

August 2015 GUIV, Camper Trailer and family of 4 would be very keen! Will watch with interest.

G`day Paul
Will keep dates in mind. Just a thought, a trip to both Thursday and Horne islands would be great as the 2nd WW is well documented on both islands. Horne Island has a great museum and tour as does Thursday island. Check out Vanessa Seekee web site www.intheirsteps.com or contact her via PO box10 Horne Island QLD 4875 as she is a historian devoted to the Torres Straight Islands, and having had a guided tour with her as a guide I would think she would have something special arranged for such an important event in Austraila`s history.
This is only a thought on my part.

G'day folks,

This trip is yours to decide what date suits you. MR, If you could do one of your survey questionnaires asking folks which month would suit there requirements that would be fantastic, as i am illiterate when it comes to those computer survey forms. Months listed would be June, July, August and September.

We do not want to go earlier coming out of the wet session!

April and May are to much work for me due to my current health issues, i am not the man that i used to be anymore. I am not farken fit enough to to constantly drag my love beast carcass through mud day in day out for a two week period on both the Telegraph and the Frenchman's tracks.

August and September are the best months and you can still have fun on both the Telegraph and the Frenchman's tracks.

I await your advice's!

Your humble servant!

Guide to some current Diesel Fuel Prices on the Cape (no idea what they will be in 2015 except they will be more expensive):
Cairns 155.9 cpl
Port Douglas 158.9 cpl
Cooktown 163.5 cpl
Coen 189.0 cpl
Archer River 220.0 cpl ****RIP OFF go to Coen****
Weipa 173.9 cpl
Bramwell Junction 210.2 cpl
Jardine River 245.0 cpl ****RIP OFF go to Siesa****
Siesa 222.0 cpl
Bamaga 235.o cpll ****RIP OFF go to Siesa****

Over 12,000k I averaged 16.15 litres p/100k towing a loaded Jayco Eagle off road van. Best was 13.53 p/100 and worst was 20.07 p/100. Fuel was the biggest expense.

I've also got prices from Vic inland to Sunshine Coast, some inland QLD, and east cost if anyone wants them.

So if you get petrol from the cheap servos
and avg litres/100km over 12,000kms = roughly you need around 1500 alone for diesel? <-- with safety allowance

Hi pbk1776

Depends on how far you need to travel, I left from Vic and did a lot of touring.
I used 1946 litres to do 12,045k works out to 16.15 litres p/100k, (just divide the litres used by k's completed).

The 1.55-1.65 cpl is on par with Brisbane at the moment.

I'm keen, pending work.

I'd also suggest with a group of potentially a large size that we avoid the school holidays as there can be literally thousands of 4wd's up there and camping sites would be difficult to arrange. August is a good choice. If the majority want to bring the families and school kids, then August is still better than June/July, but will also be busy.

I'd also suggest we book or at least notify the good skipper at the Punsand Bay Resort nice and early, as it is way nicer to stay there and very convenient for an early start to make it up to the Tip for sun up.

Have to include the tele-track in this run wouldn't we?

No doubt as we get a bit closer there will have to be some sort of rough consensus on just how much of the Cape everyone wants to see. The Cape can literally take as long as you have got available and still have places to see. Taking campers can also limit options for some unless the camper is a real off roader.

Cooktown, Lakefield, Chilli Beach, Frenchmans Track, Weipa, Virylia Point, Seisia, Punsand Bay, Tip....perhaps? Including the swimming holes on the way of course, and pending time at least some of the OTT?

G'day Trendsetters,

After meeting and playing in the dirt with the Victorian forum crew and one loan South Australian member this weekend and also playing in the dirt last year with some of our Queensland and NSW forum members, i am really starting to get excited with the 2015 Anzac Cape York trip!

The forum members that i have met so far are a fantastic group of people and i am really looking forward to be heading up to Cape York with some these these folks!

My priority this year is to get both my health and the Patrol ready for the 2015 trip.

PS, 19 MONTHS AND COUNTING, YE-HA BABY BRING IT ON!

Regards,

Paul (RLI)

I can say that I am confirm going to this trip - will be good to meet up with some Forum Members
seems NSW section/crew is really quiet.

I'll be there unless I've fallen off the perch , interested to see the difference from 1983 till now
Looking @ NP99s figure I would work fuel costs out @ $2 a litre.
Would think for me 7 tank fulls @ $250 a fill = $1750 so round it up to $2000.
That's Melb to the Tip and back maybe even a side trip
.What are the alcohol Laws up there these days?

FNQGU
15th January 2014, 10:47 AM
Alcohol restrictions vary depending on where the trip ends up going.

You can make it most of the way with no issues, but the Bamaga area is limited to 1 carton per vehicle I think. No grog can be taken into Lockhart, but Chilli Beach and the Frenchmans track are fine. Weipa is obviously fine, and so is Virylia Point. Tele track is also fine.

Fuel at Weipa in November was $1.68. Coen was $1.88. Avoid Archer River and the Jardine Crossing, particularly the Jardine crossing unless you have the ability to drain water from your filter.... Have had some shocking batches of fuel there on occasion.

What are the alcohol Laws up there these days?

No glass past the Jardine, no neat spirits.
Limits are per vehicle.
2 litres of wine (unfortified) and 11.25 litres (1 x 30 can carton) of any strength beer.
2 litres of wine (unfortified) and 9 litres (1 x 24 can carton) of premixed spirits of up to 5.5% alcohol/volume.

They can do random vehicle checks.

Not as easy as it sounds unless you have access to a property. Generally these sorts of areas are a bit off the main drag too.

Just saw this thread. Very interested but not sure I'll be set up to go. Obviously I would need to remove my LPG beforehand and perhaps 2 long range tanks. Whats the chances of doing this with petrol with 2 long range tanks? Could I always take a few jerrys if I had to I suppose

FNQGU

Fuel supplies aren't a big issue Lucus. As long as you can get a min of around 400klms, you will be fine.

So basically possible with 75 litre sub, LPG and two jerrys i could do it. Was going to do the LRA sub soon enough any way. Still on the cards then. Might take some convincing the Ms as she had her heart set on a cruise next year

Just have a good look at a decent map of Cape York. You can get fuel all over the place, but some cost more than others. Even with very little mileage capacity, you could hop from Laura to Hahn River, to Musgrave, to Coen, Archer River, Moreton, Bramwell, then Seisia and Bamaga at the tip. Try to dodge fuel at the Jardine Crossing, unless things have improved, but there have been quite a few cases of water contamination, and it costs a bomb.

Cheapest when i was up there last were obviously Weipa, at one end, Laura at the bottom, then Coen in the middle. If you can make it from Mareeba to Coen, then top up at Weipa or Seisia and back the same way, it would be as good as you could do. Seisia was reasonable for where it is. Jardine Crossing is a rip off, and so is the Archer River. Moreton and Musgrave aren't too bad for a top up, but are expensive.

Hi Lucus30,

Check my post on Page 3 re fuel, petrol prices are on a par with Diesel. None of our group took any Jerry cans, fuel isn't an issue on the Cape (other than price).
