View Full Version : Lwb storage/draws build. Rear seats removed.

sil3nt_dr3ams
8th August 2013, 12:08 AM
This is going to be a lengthy build, I've done all the necessary to make the seat removal legal.

First thing is first make the floor level.

Working on,

*Waterproofing/sealing timber
*Vinyl waterproof upholstery bottom
*Carpeted top with access panels.

SWEET this is is gonna be good to read :)

Always thought of doing similar but to have them removable for for when there is more than 2 passengers. Would be great for long trips to have the middle row seats removed if only 2 of us travelling

You could turn those big ones either side into 1/4 moon pivot out from the side style. Now that would be a bit 'la de da'....

Wont be able to because my main runners will come 50mm above and over some of lids.

Is that MDF you are using ?

sil3nt_dr3ams
8th August 2013, 06:51 PM
Yeah this section will be mdf. I'll seal the timber tho, The only strength it needs is in 4 points pushing down mdf used properly is incredibly strong.

Yeah route red all them in, flush trimmed each edge to get perfectly straight.

Everything has been coated with a sealer/primer/undercoat. Mdf is useless unless its sealed, it just wont last. Surfaces that will be taking kiwi grip i'll just rough up with 60 grit. I'm applying adhesive with a spray gun so good 100% coverage will be achievable. I pretty much want to be able upholstery clean the carpet and if car does get water in it will not affect it.

This is just the box that my big draws/storage will sit on. I'm not sure if all those access panels will be accessible thru the top setup, the point is they are there. I have some pretty cool ideas how I'm going to build things now i have a even floor to play with.

If you wanna save your spray gun (and everything in your shed) we used a $10 paint roller and the thin gel grip which was thinned a little more (can't remember what we added) and it worked a treat.. Wood and carpet side.

lol spray gun was only 20$ , you can keep the glue in a pot gun just top up when needed. Its sealed unit glue wont go off. In saying that I'm not going to trust the 20$ spray gun to be air tight. Should have heap of picks up shortly

Really good trick when when gluing carpet, separate the two with sticks and lay carpet over sticks. line it up and pull out one stick at a time pushing the carpet forward.

Bloody nice finish once again. Are you predominantly fixing the compressor there?

predominantly, settle down with the big words mate well and truly into my beer oclock.

Compressor is going to live there. Just below the floor is where it connects to the tank. I wanted to be able to get to it if i have to without having to dig for it. I'll take some detailed pics in a minute, I wish I could draw then i would show you my design and how it all fits in.

I'm definitely doing gull wing doors, mates going to 9 inch rear section off a patrol hes wrecking so I have dummy to work with. I have most o the design worked how, I am going to build it so the whole unit bolts in.

Probally not place or it but I have posts everywhere of different builds getting hard to work out where go and where one project starts and finishes, guess that why they have build threads.

I've decide to add another amp and just for 2 sets o 6x9's. Then have two separate 12 in self powered subs in boxes with some kind of 4 pin plug so i can plug them in out the car depending on space at the time.
