Ok here is the start.

I have just bought an 02 4.2 ex Telatra. Full service history.
Passed my mechanic check with a few things to do.

1. New Batteries
2. Winch not working - advised repairable.
3. Tear in Seat. - thinking black duck a quick fix.
4. New seals on Pod
5. Drivers side latch needs tightening.

Will upload more as I go.

Getting excited now!

Good price! ........ Delete that .......Very good price!
Registered? Private sale?
Roof rack & Carsales logo suggest an owner between Telstra & yourself?

Edit: I really like my Black Ducks.

Purchased private from an electrical contractor. Just updated to a new vehicle. Registered he purchased from orix I thinks.

Gear box seems a bit sloppy on selection in the middle. Ie moving 2nd to third? Any ideas?

Cuppa
23rd July 2013, 04:07 PM
I don't recall my gearbox feeling sloppy, but was aware that selection was not as 'precise' as I had been used to when I first got it. It's not the fastest gearchange i've ever had, generally slower deliberate changes work best. I find it 'normal' now. It may be a comparative thing , depending upon the gearbox you have recently been accustomed to?

Nice buy mate. Looks very clean.
As for the gears, do they select nicely? If so it's possibly just the pivots showing wear on the gear stick. Cheap part from eBay, not sure about install though..

Looking forward to the build..

yeh mate buy some gear stick bushes that should fix that sloppy feel if the change itself is ok, fairly comon i think as mine is a bit sloppy in the gear change too.

thats a great price for a turbo 4.2, good on ya mate the winch should just need a service, i used to work for telstra up there and the winches hardly ever got used and had plenty of exposure to the elements so it should just need a good cleanout, good luck with it mate.

Ok stripped out the back. Was gunna ditch the split rims (too many bad memories farming) in favour of something sweeter. But then discovered 6 new tyres. So my mind won over the heart. Lick of paint tonight and we have started.

Also got all shelving out (not required ) and added some padded tiles to take vibration out of what I carry. 3 packs from bunnings and have the floor covered.

More tomorrow. Phew. 32147

Rafa, re that single turnbuckle - I would use the type with the locknuts if you have one. I nearly lost a bloody boat to a turnbuckle without locknuts and the vibrations slowly working their magic on them. Mind you, your matting might help, but I have been burnt and wouldn't trust them. I'd also use two on each end for that matter...one each side.

The fridge is inside the pod so at worst it will fall over. I will keep an eye on them.

That's a great buy for a 4.2 mate, doesn't seem like there is too much to do. My mate also used to work for Telstra an he said the same, doesn't recall using the winch at all.

That shower on the roof is a great idea, is it just black poly pipe?

No mate. 100mm from bunnings painted. I got a thread on it somewhere. It's getting better mate.

Just not enough water.

But the compressor works like a charm.

Good Question!

I also installed a redarc charger, and removed the solar panel for the tent. Considering mounting it on roof rack above cab. But undecided at the min.

I'll ponder some more and let you know what happens

Have you seen Stropps setup? Got them setup in a frame on his roof rack with struts so can be angled up when parked. I believe Westy made some up for someone he knows too

Gotta say I'm seriously impressed with it. God knows what temp it gets to in my unvented dust proof pod, but hasn't missed a beat and holds -18 easy. Cycles off too which is good. Do have the insulated cover for it too.

Pretty rough roads/tracks too.

Highly recommend one.
