I have copied Troys post from his members ride thread here to give people that are thinking about doing a LS1 conversion a rough idea what the cost are

If anyone else has done a GU LS1 conversion and remembers what they have spent, feel free to post it up here

Cheers

So I had a look for the receipt and it actually only gives details on the price paid overall, where they list the work carried out there is no cost, it cost me 34 th big ones but I also had other work done, castor bushes etc. happy to put the receipt on if people wish to see the break down of the work carried out but its not broken down into costs.

34k, wow, does that include labour to install it or did you install it yourself? At that price I'm glad I went the LS.

That was all labour and transport from one side of the country to the other and back, do I love the engine, yes, would I do it again, depends on what the engineer says next week when trying to change engine number on Vicroads registration.

Ls motors get pretty good fuel too considering. We just got a 6 litre ss sportswagon city driving we are getting 14 l per 100. With the heavier patrol I'd say 16 to 20 on te city cycle. If my little zd30 goes this will be my conversion

Looks really neat.

What sort of economy are you getting out of it? I bet it's better than my old 4.2 GQ. 24L/100km on petrol and 33L/ 100km on gas - after a tune and gas reco!!

I'm thinking the same ,I dont want to put a TD4.2 , too slow, too thirsty.
If I could get 15/100k on the hwy packed up I'd be happy

I get less than 15 l per hundred in my td42ti towing my bike and all our gear out to our farm. Our ss l98 (6 litre 6 speed auto) powered wagon returns 15 litres in town and 10 on the highway in a patrol it'll 've more.

My god that's a lot more than I expected. I Would love to see an LS series engine in my GU considering my VY is an LS1 and i miss driving it but not at that price. I payed less for my GU.
Is great to see it in the bay though. Something about that front facing manifold.

That's pretty reasonable. Do you have mods like a 3 inch exhaust that up the power a bit to get such good mileage towing?

I get 12-13l/100km in my 3.0CRD empty.

Whenever doing work like this to any vehicle - always add 20% onto what you will think it'll cost for things you didn't expect/things that didn't work right/things that need to be done extra.... it's amazing how many time's i've been told that an LS coversion (into any car) will only cost you $10k tops.... sure you could do that if absolutely everything went right and you got awesome best prices on everything. This is NEVER the case though.

LS engines are great things though - once they're in - great bang for buck on upgrades! so much aftermarket parts available and theres so many people that have done the same, so it's easy to get advice on the best way to do things.

Highly recommend an LS swap :)
