Does any one know if the use of bio diesel can have any detrimental effect on your engine, with the cost of fuel saving 4 or 5 cents a litre makes sense but not at the cost of a f@#* engine.

Great question. Quite often I've thought, "Will I, or won't I", and erred on the side of caution and kept driving. I'm not going to risk my 4.2 TDi.

My mate makes his own at around 25c / L, runs his discovery on it, no probs for 2 years.
Some say that it can cause problems with "0" rings and seals in the fuel system but I have seen no proof of this.

Bio dies has gone out of flavour in Adelaide but I used it for a while when it was available.
Only thing they said was after a tank full, change your fuel filter because the bio loosened up crap which loaded up the filter. Not sure how that worked but I did the change and never had any probs with the '89 td42. Performance and economy didn't change noticeably
