I guess it might be worthwhile if you carry a phone when you are bush walking for longer than your phone battery lasts. If vehicle camping plugging into the vehicle, or using solar would be much less stuffing around. It's a nice idea, but not that practical for most folks I reckon. The power output isn't enough to charge my iPad.

Talking of gadgets, I was thinking these were a good idea at $30 a pop. http://www.lifestraw.com.au/

Agree with you cuppa, But I don't have solar or power in the vehicle, one day maybe :)

Like your find, that would be great to have in the car for a backup

Your life straw has a buddy in a pen shape. You leave it in a bucket of water and uv kills the germs..
Amazing technology...

You must have a ciggie lighter. That is good for 10w, more than double what the gadget makes. I just paid $15 for a Griffin Powerjolt to charge my ipad whilst we drive.

I've got a Griffin charger with two USB outputs on it, it's awesome.

Looks very interesting, might get one when the grills are available, or eBay have the stove but a lot dearer.

I love the idea that burning trees is green........
Interesting concept but given I carry unleaded fuel around to run my 'troll, I can use that in my Coleman dual fuel drives and lights.
Quite good if you're out walking though.

Tip tip tip......tap tap tap....

Dunno 'bout that mate. If you check out the output you'll see that the one in your link only puts out 2 x 1amp. This is insufficient for the later iPads (ipad3 onward) which need a higher output or they take a wet week to charge. The one I got has 2.1amp single USB output. (& came with a lead).

When looking I also realised that there are quite a few 'non genuine' Griffin Powerjolts on eBay, which have poorer internal construction & fusing. For the sake of a few dollars I'd rather buy genuine to protect my ipad. I'm not suggesting the one you linked to is a fake, but the ones that say they do not come in original packaging almost certainly are.
