Hi guys,
I'm buying 305/70R16 muddies for my GQ.
I'm wondering what sort of rim I need to fit them in.
I got standard R16 / 6inch rims with 225/75R16 tyres at the moment.
Can I use these rims to fit 305/70R16 muddies?!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

No
You'll need 8-9" rims mate. Same diameter.
You should be able to check a tyre width/rim match chart a your local tyre shop, or google might have one as an image.
It'll give you the rim width in inches and match it with compatible tyre widths in mm.
My muddies are 285 wide(mm) & need a 8" rim.

Minimum width you can get away with is 8in, 305 wide is just over 12in

Is there such a thing as RTI..... Repetitive Tapping Injury?????

Hi mate,
Yes, the chart says 8 inch. I prefer to have 285/75R16 tyres now, as it appears 305 is bit too wide for my needs.
What I don't know is the rim offset for a GQ for that size.
How do I find the correct rim offset. I know the rim diameter and the width from the chart.
Two things I dont know are,
1)Rim offset(negative I believe) for above size(285/75R16)
2)How much of the tyre can come out of the edge of the car(legally)?

Can you please help me with that?
Thanks

If fitting these 305s you'll also need to fit some bunnings garden edging for flares and keep you legal.
PM Growler for more imfo on flares. But minimum 16 x 8" rims

Hey mate. To answer your question -22 offset is what you will want your rims to be. If you are gonna run 285 and have factory flares fitted you won't have a drama.

Is this the same on a 2011 GU8 in regards to the offset.

Maybe a -13 offset

Will this still be ok to run 305's and maybe 315's as a secondary set of tyres.
As I think (after reading further) 285's will be a straight easy fit to GU8 original rims and just remove front mudflaps.
Does this sound correct.
Cos I do like the way 3Dogs rig sits and looks with the 305's. I mean how much bigger can 315's or 35" be in comparison.

Or will 305's not fit without a lift but 285's will fit without a lift.

285 and 305 will definitely fit without a lift, not sure about 315s or 35s.

285/75/R16s fit - but without a lift you'll need to remove the front mudflaps.

Well I've got a 01 GU and it had 35s on it with no lift but you can see where they hit on full lock so yes you can fit them but you will need a lift for sure if you went off road or wanted to pull off a u turn etc

Or put on radius arm spacers that will push the diff forwards I think its 15 mm

IT does has a lift. Not sure whether it's 2" or 4" though.

Ok so, in theory, I need neg22 offset rims, plus new radius arms, a 2" lift, and 35" might fit, illegally yes, but only on required trips, willing to take that chance. To give me a canary for only one item would be pretty hard to swallow but so easily fixed.

For a gu -13 is the norm. You can get the -22 they will just hang out a little further.

Does this look alright?
I asked the local tyreshop guy.
He reckons it's ok(legal) and said it's bad for the diff.
I am not sure he got it right, i thought I might ask you guys.
It's coming out of the edge of the body a fair bit. not sure whether I get into trouble with cops.
Thanks

Put some garden edging from bunning on untill you get some flares so it stays legal and unless you have a killer deep dished rim you won't chop out your wheel bearings mate!

You wont phase the rears at all mate. The fronts really only become an issue when you start pushing 35" and larger tyres.

x2 on above grab some edging for now and track down some factory flares for it.

Factory flares are so hard to find mate. Do you have any leads?!
Why aren't any after market ones out there for GQs?!!
Thanks

Just get some flexi flares or a cheaper option is bunnings garden edging........ Plenty of folk have gone down this route
