Yes for those who do sunsets it is rather simple. You set up in daylight and just wait. You get to see your lens settings and its all straight forward.
Sunrise is a pain. You set up in the dark and wait. usually its a cold wind and nothing happens as you hope.

The following are a set of pictures of the sunrise across the steel works in Whyalla looking sort of north of Port Pirie.
For those with a desire to know I was set up at 33deg 01' 19" S 137deg 33' 18"E. It is just off from one of the old tanks in Whyalla.
I think the camera was directed more Pt Germain/ Weeroona way.

I had to get there well before sunrise to set up tripod and camera. It was windy and cold.

I split these over a few post to keep the sequence correct.

In the last shot the steel works sent out a plume of steam and made glimpse of the sun a bit difficult.

Clouds sometimes can add to the final image be it sunset or sunrise. They can also make a complete dud picture.

Nice work mate !

Ive always kept a torch and spirit level in my kit for sunset/rise pics, makes working in the dark pretty easy, the part of taking sunrise pics i do always struggle with tho, is the getting out of bed early bit :smilie_bett:

Some really nice images there, nice work.
As per the previous comment though I always keep a small head torch in my camera bag with a red filter on it,
as not to destroy your night vision it really really helps setting up in the dark.
That and carrying the minimum amount of kit, so I can't leave any of it behind..... :(

All my camera stuff is in one padded camera bag, that includes spare batteries, small table mount stand, extra memory cards, torch, spare glasses just incase. The old tripod is excellent as it is graduated in degrees horizontally as well as vertically. it also has a built in levelling bubble. The fully motorised auto lenses strip the heck out of the batteries in the old Pentax K-m.
