hi,

my GQ has 16x8" rims, currently fitted with 265/70 R16 tyres, but as they are getting a bit worn and I'll need to change them soon, I was wondering if something larger will fit the rims like 285 or 300? I know I'll probably need a lift of 2" or so to stop them rubbing if they will fit the rims.

Thanks

You can fit anything up to a 315/75R16 (metric 35" tyre) on the factory 16x8 wheels. As you said lift will be required, minimum 2" lift for 285/75R16 (metric 33" tyre), and minimum 4" to fit the 315's.

also talking to some people who have 35's you may also have to do a guard chop as well in the rear as 35's scrub badly

Some do some don't. My last GQ scrubbed with 33's and a 5" lift which is very unusual. I tried GQ and GU diffs (different widths) and all that did was make it scrub in different places.

Alot of the scrubbing has to do with offset of the rim. With the tyres and rims Chris now has on his (285/75/16 on GU Steelies) and sagged 2" lift I never had issues with scrubbing. Now I have 4" lift with 33x12.5R15 on 15x8 Cruiser offset alloys and get tonnes of scrubbing
