A quick question for those in Victoria.
What are the legalities and roadworthy implications of removing the front sway bar from my GQ?
Thanks,
Drew

Apart from being un-roadworthy you will loose on road handling and have more body roll.

If it came on the car from factory it must remain.

I have a front sway bar on my GQ and a rear on my GUIV and reckon Rear Only is the go!

My Q didn't come fitted with a sway bar
There is provision for one

I found removing just the front did not affect road handling in anyway...
But I have noticed the wobbles a little more around 60

My patrol was never made with a front sway bar, so just take it off and say it wasn't made with one

So it did affect road handling.

Well its so minute I think its cutting hairs to say it affects it..
But no extra body roll or swerving..

I tend to agree with you on this Kallen,

I do not run front or rear sway bars, and I don't believe there was any difference in extra body roll / swerving.

I'm guilty as well with not having front swar bars and dont notice much on the road myself but...

The truth is if you need to do a quick jerk sharp turn to avoid something or someone and even worse need to re-correct back onto the road after that then you will 100% notice the boating and possibly roll your car without sway bars. That is when you really need them.

We aren't driving race cars or generally do high speeds around corners but for emergency turns and re-corrections afterwards then no sway bars is no good!

I've driven my GU (with OME 2" lift) with and without front sway bar, yes it can be driven without but on road is SSSOOOO much better with it connected!

What spring setup do you have?

You mean what load springs? Medium load.
I used to have disconnects but they were a sh1t design so I put standard links back in.
I don't do hardcore stuff but I got everywhere I wanted to up in the High Country without any drama's, there's a couple of ways of looking at how the sway bar works... At a slow steady pace the sway bar still allows flex, in some way's it actually helps push a lifted wheel back down for better traction.

You won't like driving with me then! I like to see how far i can push the limits of the tires and car and some times forget i'm driving a 4b and go a bit quick around bends lol

So to take a different tack, can you buy an aftermarket sway bar for the GQ that permits more flex in the front?
That way it would keep it legal......

It would be cheaper to buy a rattle gun and remove it (or even just one link) while your tyres are airing down.
