Ive noticed alot of comments about the 3L melting pistons because of high exhaust temps and that the factory top mount intercooler doesnt do much but i havnt noticed ppl bothering to put larger front mount intercoolers on.

As some one who has been in motorsport for 18 yrs the first thing any petrol turbo engine gets is a big front mount intercooler as high air inlet temps cause pistons to melt.

Is there a reason ppl dont do it?

Ive noticed that the new Tritons have a front mount.

Cheers

A lot of people go to an upgraded unit which still retains the factory mounting and for ease of fitment. The 3.0 patrols have more than the intercooler issue that causes them to melt pistons there are write ups all over these types of forums with the solutions to this problem. But as I said the intercooler is just one thing in a mixture of problems on those motors.

a very valid question, if anyone has done this on a commonrail could you please let the community know where? how much was it and how's the performance now? and as always post some pics, we all love pics!
