my fuel gauge for petrol reads full after i fill up but after i use about 5/10 L of fuel its reads half and it still has about 30/40 L in the tank after it reads empty.

what could be the problem and will it be easy to fix ???

My guess is the fuel sender in the tank is faulty. But it could be loose/broken/worn wire. Last but least would be the guage itself is faulty. Make sure there is a good earth on guage as well.

Depending where you are as to where you will find someone to test fuel sender for you.

How good are you at self checking thes items?

im a sparky so i should b able to check the wires myself. it is probably snapped wire as i had barbed wire wrapped around my drive shaft the cut the cable to my fuel pump and was a couple of over cable i couldnt find out where they went.

rob. if you are using lpg the gauge will only show the tank 80% full because your only allowed to fill gas bottles to 80% for safety or some bullshit.
