I have heard of this but not done it to my Patrol. The additional filter goes before the factory filter is my understanding. Others may be able to help more.

Haven't heard, but might have to look into it.
Going to Nissan soon so will have a chat with them as well....maybe something Nissan can do for free....or maybe I'm dreaming

I have a 07 CRD Patrol ute. I have fitted a Racor 445 with a 10 micron filter with a water sensor before the Nissan filter. These filters are rated at approx 170l/hr I have done approx 50,000K with this setup, including a trip to the Cape, without any problems.

Rambo,
I worry about fuel quality but apart from putting a load of unleaded in once have never noticed a problem.
Always been meticulous with servicing the old td42 and will to the same for the crd zd30.
Have you actually had probs. or is the extra filter just insurance? If I go that way where did you instal the Racor?

The problem appears to be the quality of Australian diesel and water contamination, particularly outside of major cities. The problem is not limited to Nissan but all CRD's. I had a problem with a Landrover Defender CRD. If you look further on the web you will find stories of people being hit with repair cost of up up $10k and is not covered under warranty. Some people have been able to claim under their car insurance.

My 2 cents worth would be to put the good (read aftermarket/expensive) filter after the original. Therefore the original filter gets the fuel first to remove the majority of crud before the fuel makes it to the second more expensive filter. That leaves the second filter to do the work it was meant to do ie screen out the really fine particles.

Hi , I was a truckie for 20 years & ran an extra filter (5 micron) after the main filters (30 micron) , tried it before the main filters but just blocked up too fast , with it after the main filter the big stuff gets filtered by the main leaving the extra filter to deal with the fine particles and doesn't block up so quick .

Yeah i hear this issue is not just related to a patrol, its just our crappy fuel in Aus. Pajero's and tritons have same issues
