OK, somebody had to ask.

Are we going to get 50 trucks with 50 types of music, at 50 different volumes?? lol

What sort of music does everybody like?

Are we going to run the sequence like a juke box, so everybody has a turn?

I'm just trying to prepare myself for the unexpected. lolol

Bloody good question Rossco, I like most types mate & I recomend we find the Rig with the biggest sound system promote it to the rank of disco bus & stick with the type of music that everyone can listen to.

Thats my 2 bobs worth anyway.

If anyone has an ipod station thing then let us know too. Went to my mates house the other night and the sound that comes out of those docking stations are more than ample for some tunes around the fire.

I agree, especially at night you really only want background music so we can hear ourselves laughing when Rossco, Rohan and Paul come prancing out with their dresses...lol

That's where the Dire Straights, blues, blue grass, John Butler's and all that type are good around the camp.

Totally agree, nothing worse then pumping Metallica and screaming at eachother to try and make conversations.

The forum meet up will be mostly middle age people and mature/considerate members so anyone who likes to get violently drunk and start fights, crank up hard loud music and go shooting native animals will not enjoy themselves with this meet up thats for sure.

Well said Doggy. But yer probably not much chance of that.
Depending on numbers?? (Only 8 voters so far, I know its only early days but), you might not need music pumping, just bit of back ground music (Doris Day)........lol, only jokin guys, and a lot of conversation. If there does have to be music pumpin, Im open to a wide range of genres but cant stand death metal or opera. Gettin out bush is all about leaving the city crap behind.

In all seriousness, the type of music being played at camp has the potential to make someone's trip less enjoyable. So this is an issue that needs thoughtful consideration by us all. People will be coming a long way and spending a lot of money to get there so we need to ensure what is being played is acceptable to everyone so we all have a good time. What rocks my boat may not be enjoyable for others, and vise versa so this needs to be kept in mind for this trip.

Personally, if someone starts blasting full-on death metal or Bryan Adams Greatest Hits it would not tickle my fancy.

If there is music pumpin, Im with Plas on this one. Well said buddy.
Andy, maybe another poll on music preferences by genres?????

Cheers Pete

I'm not into loud music when I'm camping, background music is OK. As long as there is a variety of music and it's not too loud I think everyone will be happy.
If it keeps Plassy happy I'll leave the Bryan Adams CD at home!

How about we all bring a generator each and see if they sing in tune, while we're sitting there enjoying the peace and harmony
of the great outdoor wilderness? lolol - NOT

Bigrig

Two things - firstly, drop the "middle aged" comment ... I am 38, and have no intention of dying at 76 ... my preference (if science allows me a say) will be to die at around 140 choking on the buckle of a bra strap that I've undone with my teeth!!! (and yes, hopefully not my own bra strap!!! LOL)

Other thing, doesn't anyone here play guitar? I play the drums to a fairly advance level (have a kit sitting here right beside me in my office), but they don't pack up into the trailer easily, and probably a little loud for most 'relaxing' camping scenes!! As for the music, I dead set listen to anything EXCEPT country and western AND/OR techno garbage ... other than that - go to town, but as said above, definitely for background only - the only reason you'd have the radio turned up is if you had nothing to talk about (which I doubt seriously) or there was a half decent footy game on (any code).

This is only an issue at night when sitting around the fire etc, as you'll have your own selection playing in your car for days on end getting there and back, and whilst driving around, so personally I don't think it's too much to ask that a decent mix (even including country and western if needs be - yuk) gets done up on an ipod and that is what is used at night so everyone gets some of what they want to here and what they don't want to hear only lasts for a song or two ... you with me?? I have a decent iPod player, and more than happy to be 'designated' to putting the playlist together as everyone shoots through their likes, and I'll continually update on a thread that shows the playlist? How's that for an idea?? You'll honestly only end up with a hundred or so songs on there and just set it on 'shuffle' each night so it selects randomly ...

That's my 47 cents worth ... thanks for staying tuned (even if it wasn't your taste!! LOL)

Thanks old mate - this should be one of the easier things to sort I reckon ... not everyone is going to get just want they want, but it's background stuff anyway, and I figured if we stick to mainstream, old and new, nothing to extreme at any end (i.e. techno, metal, classical, etc) with songs that 'most' people would have at least heard at some stage, then we should have a bunch of happy campers ... hopefullly!!! LOL ... this happens at my old man's joint when he throws on Lou Rowles, or Mickey Gilley, or Neil Diamond, or the Mamas and the Papas, etc and whilst I don't particularly like the music as such, I often find myself singing along quietly to it ... I'll never admit that to the old boy though ... it's like when you're a kid and your mum gives you a ham sandwich - when she asks 'how is it', just a simple, "yep, good mum" with not too much enthusiasm is what's required ... otherwise you'll end up with ham sangers for school lunch every day for 3 weeks because she doesn't understand the difference between you actually liking something, and just being polite ... not that I have issues of course!! LOL

Obviously a slight mistake on your part there Bigrig , i expect you will fix accordingly. lol.....

Oh Kelvin ... you are a man after my own heart!!! I had to avoid putting Saliva, Abandoned Pools, Prime STH, The Butterfly Effect, Adema, Amen, Taproot and System of a Down on there also ... Disturbed is in my top three bands without doubt by the way (going to see them in April when they are in Oz - seen Metallica live twice also). Just thought the music should be more to the tastes of everyone ... that said, Indestructible by Disturbed will be hammering out on my stereo for the first obstacle I tackle in the truck at the bash!!!!

Good old 50's, 60's, 70's music is good for me.
I haven't put my name down to go to the 2012 forum bash but you can take it from this entry that i'm a starter for it.
I can strum a guitar and I can sing a few songs but remembering the bloody words is my biggest problem.
And I bet no-one will want to to la, la, la all nite long.
Good old rock nroll, little bit of country and lots of good times

Cant understand why all you young whippersnippers have to have Music blaring at the same decibel rating as a F 111 Fighter Plane and then have to shout at one and other so you can carry on a conversation.
I am definately not a fan of Loud Music

I have found when loud music is played that conversations normally stop.

Especially with such a large group and a roaring fire you will have to have the music so loud just to be able to hear it.

You would've loved to join my camping trip last year then! WACKEN OPEN AIR FESTIVAL!!! Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, WASP, Motley Crue, Anvil and Slayer. Plus others like Immortal, 1349 and so on.

Honestly, when it comes to camping and music, i cannot stand the generic crap that gets pumped out of the radio. I live and breathe Black Metal and Death Metal, but when I'm out four wheel driving and camping, I've never actually had my kind of music playing because it caused to much annoyance to everyone else. So I don't usually care what others play, I just tune out from it. Works fine for me.
I'd probably start doing backflips if someone slipped some Immortal in there though. It really IS the good stuff! Any takers????

Like most of those bands, but in short doses ... my metal days have been and gone as it were, but like them "in the mix" ... eg. More into disturbed, Saliva, 6Gig, Pantera, Metallica, Brand New Sin, System of a Down, Epidemic, etc and then pepper the play mix with Antrax, Slayer, Immortal, etc and even other 'softer rock' like Default, Three Days Grace, Flyleaf, Eve6 and the list goes on ... just no country, no techno, and no hip hop and I'm pretty easy going!! lmao

That all said, same goes - don't play music when wheeling, and don't really care at all when it's just background music sitting round a campfire - the conversation, laughs, crackling fire etc usually drown that out anyway ...

Not at all - I'm 38 and wouldn't have a clue of most of the bands my kids listen to (and I think the music is rubbish - just like my mum and dad did with me, and probably their parents before them!!! lol). Different strokes for different folks old mate, but I bet whilst I say I can't handle Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, The Carpenters, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash, Harry Chapin, etc, etc, I bet I know half the words from growing up with it!!!! lol

not for volumne of noise as the best sounding sound system thats what i ment mate
you gotta come along Bob hay lol

and if a good selection of everyone`s choise of music is put into a mix at a
reasonable volumne all should be happy
i think it would not be unreasonable to have a mix that everyone could enjoy at some point on the play list hahahah

any road how about we put up a thread and all our tastes in music
maybe three or four choise`s each ???????
it wont be too hard to set up the music
and i am willing to set it up, i can do that on the putor hahahahahahahaah i have the tecmollogy to do it hahahahaha
at the end we could all have a copy as a reminder of our trip
