Hey Paul,

Nice thread mate.

Guys i know Paul pretty well and often drive with him. When i do the hard and extreme stuff it is often with Paul. He plays hard and has searched for products that will stand up to the kind of abuse that we will give them.

Welcome mate, i hope your Vendors thread gets some traffic.

Unreal pricing! Will definitely keep you in mind when shopping for a work light. Do you find the square or round lights to be better, or are they pretty much the same?

Lights
1st October 2012, 02:33 PM
Thanks MudRunner.

KRISTOFFA - One of my cars runs a round light and the other runs a square. Light output I would say is almost identical. The square housing has a slightly deeper back on it so if wanting to mount it in an area with only a small amount of space then I would go the round. Build quality is the same as is the waterproof rating.

Cheers,
Paul

I would think the only technical difference would be better heat dissipation on the square lights as they have more surface area to get rid of heat from.

Excellent thread mate, will be coming back when I'm looking for a light bar

Paul,

Can you do the light bar in wide instead of spot?

G'day. I only stock the spot beam in these lightbars.
As with all LED's they are not a pure spot beam unlike a halogen or HID driving light. You still get an amazing spread of light.

I met Paul on Thursday and is a very friendly chap who is a keen 4wd'er .

I ended up going for a 30inch light bar and the discounted forum price was decent discount on the retail price.

He was happy to chat away about his products and 4wding in general and stands by his product.

I have not tested it properly in the field yet but testing during daylight was impressive.

You'll find the "spread" beam on the twin row bars are 30 degrees and "spot are 15 degree
single row are 8 degree but halve lumens and amps etc
You lose light on the spead, most opt for spot beam. Goes out far enough for night driving on bush tracks
not so good on HWY great side vision but

Good to meet you the other day.
The 30" bar came up a treat. Looks as though it doesn't obstruct your field of view which is a bonus. I bet there will a few more night drives coming up!

threedogs: The beam pattern on our single row lightbars is approximately 25 degree. It all depends on whether or not the light uses a reflector or refractor and also the depth the led is mounted at.
Our single row LED light bars use a 5w cree LED as apposed to the majority of dual rows which use 3w LED's so the current consumption is not quite half and the light output is not half either.
However, there are other manufactures out there still using 3w LED's in there single row lightbars and you are correct in saying the current consumption and light output would be very close to half of a dual row.

Paul

G'day Pete.
Sounds like you figured it out. Order off the website and I'll pack and send it for you the same day.

As for the difference between LED & HID..
There are alot of technical differences between the two, however I wont go into explaining the technical side (Conductor material, how semiconductors work, electrons) but give you a couple of points on the two.

LED - Light Emitting Diode. No filament that can burn out or break and last much longer than the arc tubes of HID's. When turned on the light output is instant. A much larger spread of light. Low current draw. No ballast that can fail.

HID - High Intensity Discharge. Have a warm up time of 5 – 15 seconds until reaching maximum brightness. They throw light further into the distance. Can update a set of existing driving lights with an aftermarket kit.

I hope that gives you a bit of an idea.

Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul, again.

This is what I'm thinking of....

I have the IPF 900 driving lights (both spot) with the chrome front, (these ones take an H3 halogen lamp), on the bull bar and was thinking of mounting a 40" Aurora light bar on the cab roof.

I've checked your website out and have chosen the 40" because of the 1600m, projectable light distance.

I live/drive on mainly long, flat country roads, and the long distance the light projects is my reason for choice.

Let me know your thoughts on this combination. I'm open to suggestions.

Agree with Westy (and his Dad)... Since you last saw my truck I have put a 40" single row in place of the HID Roo Lites. I put it on the Roo bar not the roof but that is of little consequence for what you mention.

The light bar is sooooo much better in practical terms that I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner.

I am running a 42" bar on the roof over the B pillar. It's simply awesome. I will admit though you kind of get used to that level of light and want more....... Until you have to turn it off for oncoming or something..... Then OMG! Pitch Black!

I would say though I am looking to fit some 170s spots on the front bar with maybe some 55 hid to penetrate the middle of my field a little more.

It really is Liquid Light though. Love it.

G'day Rossco.
Thanks for your enquiry.

The amount of light the 40" Aurora LED lightbar emits, will more or less make your other lights non existent. This includes your spotties! At 19600 lumens of light they are amazing.
The use of quality 5w led's and the reflector design gives you an even light all over. Like Darren (MudRunnerTD) said, it is like liquid light.

As for mounting, well there are many ways this can be done. The simplest and tidiest setup would be to run a single rack for the lightbar. If you can find something that sits nice and low it will make for a nice and slimlime setup. Otherwise if the rack sits high enough you have the option to mount the lightbar underneath the rack.
They come with two different sizes for the mounting feet so you will have an option that best suits your needs.

If you have any further questions let me know.

Paul

If I mount it on the 'roof rack', how much light will reflect on the white bonnet? Is it going to be a hazard to me?

What about if I mount it on top of the pod? Will the same thing occur?

Rossco

I have a 30" mounted on my Sierra, DIRECTLY above the windscreen. Actually it's on the windscreen surround! It does light the bonnet up and I originally thought it might annoy me but it's fine for me. The advantage you have is that you can position the light back further than I could and this will allow you to eliminate the majority (if not all) of the light that could reflect off the bonnet. It won't be an issue. There are plenty of people out there now running lightbars on the roof with no issues whatsoever.

Paul

Hey Rossco,

i have mine over my B Pillar on the GQ and i have Zero reflection on the Bonnet. Darkness. The light just misses the top of the bull bar and i have no dark patch in front of the car at all. If you were to mount it to the front of your Pod above the roof of your cab it would be in the same position as mine. Great spot. To make sure it is on and working i look at the top of my Snorkel and the light reflects of that.

Ross, Did you check out my pics on the WPC Forum? That's one of Paul's 30" single row light bars (not the Aurora ones), so not as bright what your looking at, but perfect for what I want. Mine is mounted on the roof coming off the front of a Rhino Sportz bar with some brackets and just forward of the B pillar. Another question, has any one seen an angled pair that could be mounted on the slanted parts of a bullbar? So that the LED's were mounted like in a step pattern so the light would still go forward but the housing would fit the profile of the bullbar.

The great thing about a LED Light bar is that it has an Amazing Spread on it. I dont think you would need to place 2 on angles like that. 1 in the middle between the 2 stanchions would be perfect.

If you really wanted to do that then maybe a couple of 12" LED bars for each side and a larger one in the middle but not sure you'd need it mate? There is No Ht spot in a Light bar field and it is a great spread as you can see above.

Hi. The picture is of a 40" lightbar. It has a total of 9600 lumens.
Alternatively you have the option of the Aurora light bars. Yes, they are more expensive however they have double the lumen output if comparing the same length bar. So the 20" has 9800 lumens.

Personally I think you would be better off with one longer light bar in the middle. This will also give you more penetration of light (distance). One mounted on either side is a great setup however better suited as flood lights off to the side as opposed to a forward facing light.

Hey man, prices look good. I went to your website and got lost :( I am confused with the price difference for the advertised light bar on here for $290 and one on your site for $850 or something is there a big difference in the quality of build? What reflector tech do you use?. Also do you have any lights where the brackets are alloy like the bars or other HIDs? I have found with the mix of both alloy and steel everything goes rusty in between and ceases up after a while. My last set I got ripped on as it wasnt covered by a warranty and the brackets were cheap chinese stuff. Oh and what cree thing is it? 3 or 5w. sorry for all the questions. I rather buy 1 bar for $800 with a decent warranty that will last me a while if a better build than buy a cheaper one 2 or 3 times. but tempting to buy a few at this price and just change them up when I knock em around.

I have no doubt he will give a great price for a member..... My concern is not a price point it is a quality one. As I said I dont mind paying the 7 to 8 hundred like some of the others are charging if I know the product will last. $290 for a 40 inch light bar is a good price my worry is how long will it last? What is it made of? Are you guys involved in the engineering or merely a distributor? The brackets not being rude look weaker than 2 blocks of lego cemented by my 2 year old sons poo poo. I like i am sure every other user of this forum am simply looking for the best deal as a consumer..... as I said quality over dollars any day.

I've considered driving lights before but couldn't justify the prices. Now I can!

I understand the laws are; an even number of forward facing lights (six max) and not above original light height. Is this right? Or am I just taking the fun out of it?

I don't do a lot of night driving and I don't think I need tar melting bunny burners. My brakes work and stopping from 100kph takes about 100 metres (on dry tar) so seeing that extra 900 metres isn't really needed. But those grey grasshoppers can be hard to see, waiting to pounce in front of me to test my reaction time! From what others have said I think 6000-8000lm should be enough.

So would you recommend a pair of 35 Watt LED LAMP x 16 LED (the square ones), or a pair of 10' light bars? Output is about the same with colour temp 5000K and 6000K (does this make much difference?).

Either way, LED driving lights for under $200, hard to pass up!

I will send him a message and ask him to drop in here and further explain his current special as your questions are reasonable.

I assure you though Paul has a Shop Front business selling TV Antennas and fitting supplies and is in the Import /export business and is very well connected there. Paul sells heaps of his gear here and all over MudRhino Forum too where the Membership expect the Best.

Cheers MR

Thanks for the questions guys. I will attempt to reply to every one of them. If there is one that I have missed please let me know..

Hi PutPut. No need to apologise for the questions.
We sell two different brands of light bars. The Aurora's which are one of the best single row 5w light bars on the market and a cheaper version. Customers want different products/prices so we cater for that.
Under our 'Categories' you will find 'Aurora LED Light Bars' and for the cheaper alternative take a look under 'LED Light Bars'.
The stainless used in the manufacture of the brackets for the work lights, is not high grade 316L and they are not guaranteed to remain corrosion free forever. The body is made of powder coated aluminium alloy, which stands up exceptionally well on motor vehicles but could become flakey when the primary use is on a fishing boat.
I have sold many of these lights to recreational fisherman and also to commercial operators. So far they have all been more than happy to replace them, IF the need arises, as opposed to paying $400-$600 per light.
We are not the manufacturer nor are we engineers. However, we are a family run company with over 35 years of experience in the electronics industry. That is not combined experience either. We have been importing electronic goods for over 20 years and understand the needs for quality goods. We like to work on the principle of, if we wouldn't use it ourselves we won't sell it. All of our products are tested on our own vehicles before we import them and if we are not happy with the product (regardless of price or manufacturer) we don't bring it in.

The majority of our work lights use 3w CREE LED's.
The Aurora light bars use Osram Oslon LED chips.
As you've probably figured out, if you want the best, Aurora is the way to go. To give you a bit of an idea take a look at this video http://youtu.be/IXw-8Ad1sm0

What you also need to take into consideration is the amount of light output each bar is offering. To save you the hassle of looking each one up individually I'll put a brief summary below.

10" 2400 lumens 10" Aurora 4800 lumens
20" 4800 lumens 20" Aurora 9800 lumens
30" 7200 lumens 30" Aurora 14800 lumens
40" 9600 lumens 40" Aurora 19600 lumens
50" Aurora 24600 lumens

Hi twisty.
I have sold a number of 35w LED lights to some guys that do alot of Navruns etc. They have roof mounted them and angled them out to the side slightly and are more than happy with the performance. In terms of distance, personally, I wouldn't use them as a driving light.
In my honest opinion you would be better off with a light bar. It is a bit of a grey area in terms of running them in pairs. Myself and many others have not had any issues.
Depending on your mounting options, obviously will change what light will suit your requirements.

I hope I have answered all questions.
If anybody has anymore please do not hesitate to ask or get in contact with me.

Best regards,
Paul

Even though the double 3w has more LED, but does the 5w put out as much light in the single. Just interested in what your thought is. Or details.

Hi,
What kind of housing are these in?I have seen a few in mining applications up to 7 inch and they weigh more than my 22inch 5w as they have a large heat sink and housing. These dont look any where near the size, how well do they dissipate the heat.

Cheers
Ben

Lights
1st July 2013, 03:14 PM
Hi Ben and thanks for your enquiry.
The housing is made of diecast aluminium. There is a picture of the dimensions of these lights on our website with each 10w lightbar however the body is 76.39mm high and 86.5mm deep. The pictures do not give a good indication of the size of these lights.
They are not small like a typical 5w lightbar housing. There are some small 10w lightbars available however our manufacturer is staying away from this design at the moment after testing some and the housing becoming very hot. LED's will last a very long time providing they are kept cool and the heat generated is dissipated appropriately hence the bigger housing.
$$ for lumen output they are great.

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks for your enquiry.
We do not sell a kit which includes everything with our light strips. The main reason for this is there are many ways in which lights can be connected and everybody has a different idea/reason as to how they want things done.
We do have a wiring harness that we sell with some of our lightbars which you could use, however some small amount of modification may be required depending on your application.
There are two harnesses available. One with switch and fuse for $17 and the other with switch, fuse and relay for $24 (normally $29).
We also have an LED strip available that can be cut every three LED's allowing you to custom make a length. They are not on our website at the moment but I can do these for between $13 to $19. Price is dependant on how many LED's you want per length.

If you have any further questions let me know.

Paul

Paul, I am thinking of a single row light bar to fit on top of an ARB bulbar using the standard aerial mounting points. What would be the best size?

Paul, I am thinking of a single row light bar to fit on top of an ARB bulbar using the standard aerial mounting points. What would be the best size?

Hi BenK.
Using the standard aerial mounts can be tricky at times because of the spacing and the different mounting options between light bars. The 30" that I posted up above should work because the mounting feet are infinitely adjustable. If you wanted something smaller then you could also make the 20" work. Both of these use a 5w CREE LED.
If you were after more light output then I would suggest our LED lightbars that use a 10w CREE LED http://www.ledlightco.com.au/led-light-bars-10-watt-single-row/
The feet mount on the end of the lightbar and may require a custom mounting plate between the two aerial mounts.

Hi nissannewby.

It's a busy time of year with the post but as Kallen said, if we can get it out to you on Monday everything should be fine.

From seeing a few 10w bars and the aroura mate, the aroura wins hands down..

Although the 10w has it in the power, the arouras reflector and lenses efficiency allows a better light output from a smaller unit..

My mates are running the 10" (I think) aroura and it out does his narva spotties.

Hi Shaun.
The first photo as most have mentioned is pixelated. From what I can make out it looks good and you have it far back enough for there not to be (or have minimal) reflection off the bonnet.
In regards to your comment about aiming the bar up.. I agree. Angle it up so the focal point is further up the road and you will most likely get a couple of hundred meters further throw. I noticed the road you were on has a small hill so if you have a road that's flatter it will give you more of an idea as to where it needs to be angled.

Cheers,
Paul

Maybe some body can explain to the uneducated. What's the difference between the auroras and a normal light bar?

Quality and light output. The Aurora is the benchmark mate. Paul is away this weekend but. Am sure he will give you a better comparison when he gets back Monday.

BigRAWesty
6th June 2014, 09:39 PM
The difference lays with the reflector efficiency and transparency of the lense.
So the 20" 5W led aroura has a higher lumen output compared to the 20" normal 10w led bar.

That's where your price difference is..

Sorry for the late reply, however I was away all weekend.
In short, the difference between the Aurora's and a lot of the cheaper light bars is..

More lumens per watt than most other manufacturers.
Goretex breather which helps prevent moisture/condesation buildup.
Circuitry which regulates the heat output of the LED's resulting in longer life and consistently higher light output for longer.
Quality of the stainless.
They come with a full wiring loom including switch, fuse and relay.
Two sets of mounting feet.

We offer different lightbars to suit peoples requirements and budget. The cheaper light bars are excellent value for money and we do not hesitate in recommending any of the products we stock. Just because it is cheaper does not mean it is junk.

On a side note, I did some testing of the 31" curved lightbar this weekend and it was excellent in the bush and out on the open roads.

Cheers,
Paul

We don't stock them in a flood so the second light would be a combo beam. All you would need is a dual outlet wiring harness http://www.ledlightco.com.au/wiring-loom-basic-2-light/
That way there is no need for a custom loom and installation would more or less be plug and play.

Too Easy! So just got of the phone with Paul....

After spending several days faffing about on eBay and realising the 99.9% of the light bars all get pushed out of the same factory and the CREE chips they all claim to have are cheap knockoffs, i was reading this particular thread today over lunch. The mention Liquid light and the overwhelming support for Paul and his product resulted in the phone call...

Given the late hour of the trading day Paul will be shipping me tomorrow a 40" Aurora Style COmbo Beam Light Bar - Which of course he discounted!

So I'm contemplating either calling in sick tomorrow or at least going home early - I'll be waiting for the mailman with tool in hand!!!!!

Thanks Heaps Paul - Review of said light to follow......

Cheers

Dave (DG)

Post sales support a1 plus answered all of my ludicrous questions...
So 40" of affordable daylight on tap is now nicely mounted under my roof tray. The stupid winds we got today in Melb did give me some occasional him as I crossed the bolte bridge but otherwise this light is almost invisible when unlit.

I'm very pleased with my super tidy wiring and It was fortunate that I discovered the missing clutch access cover plate on my firewall now rather than half way across a stream ;)

Next will be a pair of hid spots for highway but to be honest - this bar alone will do me find in bush with all other lights off!

And of course some work lights for the rear.....

Pics I took this evening of standard headlight, standard headlights with high beam and then same but I flick the switch that forces a godlike voice to declare "let there be light"....

I left it on out the front and ran inside to proudly show my wife - when she came out to look the old nissan pulsar parked in front of me had melted...
he he

They are great I'm now contemplating a couple of cheap "hid" ebay spots (ie around $100) but for my reverse + work light plans i'll absolutely be giving paul a buzz... any reports of UFO's around the Greensborough (aka Utesville) or MillParkistan Soutmorangistan regions should be disregarded - Just me and my light bar having fun!

I use his 18w 6" work light bars on my spare wheel work lights. They are blinding when front on.
Throw a really good spread of light.
And look neat to.

I went and saw Paul today and grabbed a twin light to fit to my DRZ 400 as a hunting light for a trip later this month. Great guy, great service, great price,

He has got a couple of new products that have just come in that look awesome.

I tell you guys the light he has are solid. No junk. High quality products. No hesitation buying from his range. I will be going to see him to fit out the GQ in the coming months.

Thanks for the enquiry.
That's not a light we will be stocking. The light in the link you provided is listed as 5". The images show it to be 160mm which is 6.3"

We do have a 7" 90w driving light.. http://www.ledlightco.com.au/7-inch-round-driving-light-18-5w-high-intensity-led-spot-beam/

If you are wanting a 5" driving light I would suggest a set of these.. http://www.ledlightco.com.au/5-inch-round-light-bar-driving-light-spot-beam/
