Hi all, just wondering if it possible to fit a winch behind the original bumper bar on a 99/00 Ti?? The nudge bar has a position for the number plate to be relocated and it looks like theres heaps of room in there so im just curious as to wether it can be done or not or if it has been done??

Cheers

I would have thought you would need a winch bar connected to the chassis rails to mount a winch. (which replaces the bumper bar) I wouldnt have thought you would have the mounting points for a winch between the chassis rails on any vehicle. (Too far apart)

You might be able to knock up a custom mount for the winch to sit behind the bumper bar but you would need a fair amount of room under the grille / radiator for the winch but also you would have to watch the raod clearance under the winch not to mention you still need access to the controls on the winch.

If you can get a cradle made up that bolts to the chassis it should be ok. How are you mounting the roller fairlead????

Maybe you could mount a HR point to one of the chassis rails (so long as it doesnt protrude beyond the front of your bumper bar) and then get yourself a "Detachable Winch Hitch Receiver" like this one http://www.tigerz11.com.au/product-category/accessories/detachable-winch-hitch-receiver.html and then you could use the one winch in the front or the rear of the vehicle as required.

X2 with above that a very good option, plus saves you carting around 45kg all the time.
might be a pain on hilly terrain and if stuck to the gunnells in mud, Wow now I'm talking myself out of it.

HOW FIT ARE YOU or your co driver
As I've said on another thread theres a GU thats local with a tow bar hitch/receiver on the front, will take a pic next time

They're is a Dealer fitted winch mounting plate getting around that was fitted to some GU fleet trucks & it kept the factory front bumper in tact. I don't have any info on them other than they do exist so maybe something worth looking into

Rkinsey thanks for the link and havnt measured the clearance but i'll be installing another trans cooler so i'll sus it out then and Threedogs i was thinking of making a cradle to bolt between the rails to mount the winch and make sort of legs to curl under it to attach the fairlead but thats why i was asking lol. I'll have to look into that plate Patch697 might have to call up a dealer and find out. For some reason i thought i had seen it somewhere on another Ti but i cant remember if it was on here or on the net somewhere, but to access the gear lever if there wasnt enough room from the top you could possibly turn the winch upsidedown to get to the controls from underneath ?? Dunno

Do you mean same as attaching a winch under the bar or inverting the winch?

I have seen 1 no a hilux that original plastic bumper was still in place but somehow had the fairlead mounted, looked rediculous but can't comment on how safe it was mounted as it drove by whilst I was at the lights

I have winch mounted into my factory ti bar. Its a telstra winch cradle they had for the telstra patrols. The cradle "my third" lists looks like the same. Or you might find a second hand winch bar for a little more than the cradle.

Hi Toolman,

Did you ever get to check if these fit the bullbar on a Simpson Edition GU8?

Hi Mate,

My apologies for not getting back to you. I looked at buying a Simpson Edition bullbar to trial this however the cost of the bullbar outweighed the demand for it. To date I haven't been able to find anyone willing to let me cut their bullbar to trial it either. I'm more than happy to work with you to get it into your vehicle if you are happy to do so. I noticed you are in Ballarat, do you get down to Melbourne often? If so PM me and we can arrange to catch up.

Regards,
David
