At the moment I am running BFGoodrich All terrains 31".

I am thinking of going to 33's and was looking at the kl71's.
I do not do much mud driving in Perth mainly sand and tracks with rocks. Would the KL71's be overkill?

Should I stick with BFGoodrich?

Also will the 33's affect my already slug 4.2 NA GU. I am not too worried on the blacktop just in sand etc.

Any suggestions.

33" are fine have a look at the Mickey Thompson 4 rib, one of the better all rounders

Kl71s definitely overkill if your mainly gonna do sand....... As 3dogs said, go something like the MT 4rib ATZs...... Can't fault them yet

You'll be fine with the 33's - you may just have to go into low range a little quicker than with the 31's.

Try and borrow a set of someone for a quick trial before you commit to a purchase of either sizes.

I remember when I got my first GQ with the mighty 4.2 Diesel and a Safari Turbo and I was worried about changing up tyre sizes, and even though everyone kept telling me to put bigger tyres on, I kept buying Desert Duellers in the same size.....

Now even with a pissy little 3L CRD, the first thing that goes on without even thinking about it is the bigger tyres.....

I used to love the BF Goodrich's - had excellent runs out of them, but also had good runs out of Goodyear Wranglers, and Mickey Thompson MTZ's.

The only real poor performance which has left a sour taste are the Cooper ST's, I can't and/or won't even look at them now, but then again others report to have had good runs out of them. Their main weakness is rocky terrain, so if you know you are doing rocky terrain stuff I recommend to try something else, otherwise they are great.

For what its worth, I really like my KL71's and would recomend them to anyone. They might be a little overkill for just sand but they are not very loud on the black stuff and also if you do find yourself in some mud or on a steep hill climb from time to time they will do wonders for you.

Cheers guys. Also do 33" tyres make much of a difference.

Well the Kl71 for 33" are $329 fitted, which I thought was quite good.
For the BFGOODRICH AT's they are $405 for 31's and $429 for 33's

33s will give you an extra inch diff clearance, helps me out when playing on the rocky stuff. Will probably be of use on the sand too....... Those kl71s are only a single directio tyre aren't they? So if you get those would you just get a cheapy spare?

Yeah would be keeping a normal spare.

Putting a 2" lift in shortly too so will end up having a 3" height increase. Will have to make sure it will fit in the garage now. LOL.

Cheers.

It sure is mate lol............ oh and another thing, if you go for 33x12.5s you'll need to make sure your rims are no less than 8in wide but you'll be fine with a 10.5in wide tyre

I recently fitted a set of 285/75/16 (GT radial adventuro at2) to my GU, I paid 270 a tire fitted and they have been exceptional off road, and I think they are a 10 ply tire by memory so very strong and should hold there tread for quite some time

Well I found 33" kl71's for $255 not fitted.
I am happy with that!

Got my 2" springs on order too.
Front diff lock will be done in couple weeks.

Thanks for your help people.

Not a bad price at all mate....... Are they 10.5" or 12.5"? Did ya have to get new rims?

Not sure, think they would be 10.5

He did not mention anything about rim size but I think they will fit OK. I am running the standard steal rim which is the 16".
