OK here’s the easy way to wire in your lights
You will need
5 meters of 5 core trailer wire
2 plugs 5 or 6 pin I used computer power plugs from inside the case OME would be better but no one stocked them here
A soldering iron
A 10mm socket and ratchet
Philips head screwdriver
Flat screwdriver
A knife or wire strippers.
You will be wiring them to the trailer plug it’s the easiest way I know of
NOTE: For reverse lights you will need to use the wire from the reverse light on the left hand side and run the wire across to the driver’s side

5 Core Trailer wire

First step is to remove on either side of the 4wd two 10mm bolts that hold in the lights

After you remove the lights and soldered your plugs on run the wires.

As you will see there is a grommet on either side as shown

This isn’t a neat job but it works :)

Wire to trailer plug

Wiring for 7 and 12 pin plugs use the colour coding to help with lights

Let me know if you need anymore help or would like me to explain a little bit more with any of this

Cheers

Plenty of after market lights can be found on eBay........ And if you wAnt a print off, sa.ve the piccies to your pc, open up a word document and then you can copy and paste the text into that and insert the pics from your pc. You've the got your own copy to print off........ There's probably a better and easier way but maybe one of the computer gurus can help there

Just out of interest, what is it about Australian Regulations that has many 4WDs not utilise the 'normal' rear lights?

Because the spare tyre is mounted on the door it is considered an obstruction! Go Figure???? you'd think that they would just Add the extra lights to the lower Bumper area and keep the better lights in the side guards as they are clearer and far more visible 99% of the time. Just Dumb!

GQs were the same. but all manufactures have had to do this. Nissan Toyota, Mitsubishi, Holden etc, etc. Silly Law

I agree - add more lights!

So I guess the manufacturers removed the higher lights for cost reasons, but it is legal to use them (as long as it is in addition to the lower lights)?

Looks horrible ... and makes no sense at all, especially given that sedans have to have a higher light in their rear window!

Wow that's a basic setup..
Was looking at the q a while back as I'm doing the same to mine, the plugs for all the tail lights are just above the chassis over drivers side rear wheel.
I'll be splitting here and re- running wires to both sides for body and tail. Also where the cross from chassis to body I'll be adding steel conduit to protect them from stones..

I'm really tempted by the Viper alarm, but it seems to come with a SIM card that includes all traffic charges in both Australia and the US. Not sure how that would work in PNG. Might have to contact the supplier for details.

Yup, crazy rules, I'm doing mine next week. Crazy rules risking public safety........stupid.

Now, rant over, thanks very much for this very useful and informative thread. cheers
