Anybody used Opticoat ? did a search on the forum but didn't find anything....

Here is their sales speal

http://www.opti-coat.com
Opti-Coat (Opti-Guard) is a hard wearing, aftermarket, ceramic clear coat for superior resistance to scratching (9H) and chemical etching from environmental impacts. It provides permanent protection for all factory paints, and can also be applied to exterior glass, metal and hard plastic surfaces.

So thinking of getting this stuff done to the Patrol. Thinking of DIY, as the buy price is $89 here in Oz.
If I get it done by the authorised car detailing guy then its $600 and comes with a lifetime warranty.

sounds good but what if you have an accident and need panel repair.
no panel shop is going to want to repair a panel with ( what looks like epoxy ) clear coat on it.
well not at a normal price anyhow's.
remember someone on here talking about a paint job that's extremely hard wearing.
sure it was the paint it-self that was strong, not a coating.
think its the fella in Newcastle n.s.w, who's selling headlight up grades had it on his navy blue ride.
you may want to suss that out.
cheers
yep sure it was Mick he'a a spray painter by trade, his avtar.

Hi Mate

Yes I have ceramic based clear on my patrol. It's totally different to that product though and a real ceramic coat respray on a patrol is anywhere from $5000 onwards. A proper ceramic clear coat is sprayed on like a normal clear (about 60 microns not 2) and it's much stronger and harder waring then any other clear.

That's just another glorified paint protection. It may work better then other paint protections but I couldn't be sure. It will not make your paint withstand lantana scratch marks or scratches from a sponge like a true ceramic based clear does.

I compare these products to the Hyclone. The people who use them swear by them but the cold hard facts continually prove they don't work like they claim. I prefer to put my faith in a good carnauba wax over these other products.

Cheers Mick.

Well I was searching about the side effects of the opti coat but I see there is not side effect of the opti coat. but is it easy to do it by your self because as I see the kit of the products and may be DIY can be goes wrong. Like mixing of all products. anyhow good sharing.

You wont find side effects from using it but it's when people have this illusion that it wont scratch and bird crap and fall out wont damage the paint is when you run into problems.

The amount of cars I've had to paint over the years from people who have had paint protection on the cars thinking they can leave the crap on there cars for a few weeks and it will be fine would be well over 100. If you treat it like an expensive polish and apply it every 6 months or so you wont have any dramas. I know for a fact though it wont last a life time though as like any wax or polish or paint for that matter it will wear out and break down.

Cheers Mick.
