October long weekend S.A
A few of us went to Blinman, an old mining town about 5-6hrs north west of Adelaide in the Flinders Rangers.
Accomadation was at the Captains Cottage, an old miners cottage revamped at the foot of an old mine. Very impressed, sleeps 10 comfortably (3 doubles 4 singles) Beds that is by the way.
No tv or phone, how peaceful. 3 minute stroll from the pub, ahhhh.
Plenty of history in the area and plenty to see with great tracks to explore with plenty of tricky bits.
Great time had by all. At the end of each day the bbq was fired up and the booze flowed, with plenty of laughs as we told our stories of the day. (TROLS RULE)

Recomended to anyone who loves to get away from suburbia with their 4b.
pics attached: hopefully they worked

Cheers Pete

Yer buddy, gorgeous country after the rains. There were quite a few 4b clubs up there that weekend, the town of Blinman was chock a block with 4bs.
They have some kind of fair up there each year on the Oct long weekend, food & wine, Home made goods, (food & crafts etc) Bric a Brac, & bands. They even raffle 4bs off as well.
Great weekend to head that way for those interested, Great tracks to explore as well. Just ask at the local for some directions on tracks, very helpfull.

Cheers Pete

We were in the Blinman area late October. Spent almost 5 weeks in the Flinders. We camped at Alpanna Station for 4 days. Blinman had their annual gymkhana on while we were there. We had a great day & evening and met some wonderful people. Some locals told us the Northern Flinders is the greenest it has been for a couple of decades.
Nice pics Pete.

Yer buddy, as you know its awsome up there. they have the gymkhana up there every year and its always chockers. 4bs everywhere.. This thread is actually from 2010, but 2011 same weekend we were there again, stayed at little paddock homestead and it was great. have a trip report but havent posted as mate has the pics.
We also did a great day trip through Glass gorge which is run by the same people that own Alpanna station, we popped in there to pick up the gate key to the property. Nice place, whats the accomadation like ???? and yes it was the greenest ive seen it....
Hopefully next year we will be back again if not at the Grampians...

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I spent a lot of my youth in Blinman and have a lot of family still in the area, in fact, I was there only days ago picking up a GQ we just bought.

Some information for those of you considering visiting the town/area.

Blinman is host to a Land Rover Jamboree almost every year on the Easter Long Weekend. While the town is full of Land Rover's... the event more than makes up for the vehicles getting around.

October Long Weekend is the 'Cook Out Back' event, designed primarily with the camp oven cooking enthusiasts in mind, the event has grown both in size and diversity and is well worth a visit.

Beware though, accommodation in the area is limited during these peak times, so unless your planning on camping in the near by Parachilna or Glass Gorge, book your accommodation early.

There are a lot of day trip options within the area and its best to ask a local which is best place to visit. Roads often get washed away and it depends on your vehicle as to which places are accessible.

My Father runs the local General Store, be sure to pop in and say hello, his knowledge of the region is second to none.

Wilpena to Blinman is also a surfaced road nowadays, otherwise the drive through the Parachilna Gorge is picturesque.

Yer buddy, we pop in to the gen store every time were up there, been going there for the last 3 years staying at either the Captains cottage or Little paddock homestead during the Oct long weekend and love the place. Tell ya dad to buy more newspapers LOL they go like wildfire mate, but a top bloke he is and what a great part of the world he lives in, like you said there is so much to explore up there. Cheers
