I had a reco auto in the GQ already that only lasted 3 years, the cost of another reco was to high and to be honest I much prefer driving manual off road. So we will see how it goes, at least with a manual box I will be able to strip and repair it myself :)

Nice write up Paul,

As a person who just swapped a manual gearbox for another manual gearbox, it's a big job, I could imagine the auto would be worse.

At least like you had access to a gearbox jack, 4 post hoist etc. But still a big heavy bugger of a job.

Enjoy the manual mate you'll never look back

Mark

Getting the auto out was the easy bit, because there is no clutch assembly in the way! Me and the wife got the auto out in a morning, I reckon with a hoist and tranny jack an auto swap would be do-able in a day :) still not for the faint hearted though :)

How did you wire the reverse switch to get lights to go??

There should be a switch on the top of the manual box with two wires coming out of it.

Buddrick, the procedure for wiring the reverse lights along with the start inhibitor, is in the PDF document at the start of the thread. Cheers Paul

Did you get the email when you joined up verifying your email addy, I dare say you didn't and that is why you cannot see the attachment.

Boss man ( AB ) can fix this for you.....

Just discovered this absolutely beaut of a PDF. Mental, you're a godsend mate.
I've just ordered a pilot/spigot bearing and looking to complete the rest of the swap after I get that later in the week. Can't wait!
So glad I don't have to bugger around with the wiring, had been searching around for hours before finding this
