Hi there

Can anybody explain why on the front auto locking hubs, you can turn them to locked. I am new to all this and am just a bit confused. Does this lock the front axle like an air locker?

Hey Nick, there is a post on here that will answer all of you questions regarding locking hubs, I just can't seem to find it.

Hi Nick, there was a similar question just recently that might help.
Have a look at this thread: http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?1154-front-hubs&highlight=hubs

Thanks for the help guys. so do air lockers perform the same task with the benefit of being able to unlock at will?

Air lockers perform a completely different task. Locking hubs lock the hubs to the axles, air lockers lock the diff centre so equal torque is sent to both axles. An unlocked diff will always send torque down the path of least resistance.

Thanks for clearing that up Tony. so with the axle locked, im guessing they dont steer too well? unless one wheel is in the air that is.

Correct, steering is much more difficult with the front diff locked until one wheel looses traction.
