Need a new full set of rubber to replace the standard 275/65 R17.Looking at near the $380-400 mark.
Presently it's BF Goodrich AT T/A KO and Cooper AT3 both at 275/65R17 and Cooper ST Maxx at 265/70R17. The ST Maxx is marginally more narrow- is that likely to be a problem??
Do mainly 50% black top, 30% outback roads (dry & wet) and 20% sand.
Can anyone help with a suggestion or too or three.......!

Have a look at the Mickey Thompson 4 tread job, great all rounder save running 2 sets of tyres

Yeah sounds like you're off the road a lot, I'd go with the Mickeys 4rib if it were me

Have to agree with the MT 4 rib ATZs, find the far better than the BFG ATs, better on the wet roads and the slippery stuff, not tried them on the sand yet though.

"I think it's down to Cooper ST Maxx and MT ATZ-4rib. Both at 265/70R17". I'm wanting to run one set of tyres so noise might enter the equation.
Can anyone please comment on 5 rib treads like Coopers AT3 (275/70R17) or MT's ATZ5 (265/70R17) or STZ (275/70R17)?

Yer I got the BFG A/T KOs and think they are great on and off road, haven't had a prob out bush and I love challenging tracks, admittidly havent done hard core coz trolls not set up for it, but if the trol can do it the tyres are well suited and have not let me down, On the road they are great, handle well and no road noise. Love em, only issue I have is I didn't get 285s.
Got a mate that has tried 3 different tyres and still doesn't get the traction the BFGs do. Highly recommended but have to go the KOs

I run BFG A / T KO 's on my GU ute. On my 3rd set. Good on road wet or dry. Wear well. Must keep them balanced regularly or the" old patrol shudder" appears. Not bad off road ( admittedly my ute / trailer combination in work guise tips the scales at 5100kg GCM ). Obviously they are A/T so not the perfect off road tyre. Only real negative is that they seem to trap stones in the tread & drives me nuts when I get back on road.
Have Cooper ST's on my old Troopy. Good on & off road. Wear quickly & MUST rotate them from side to side / front to back regularly otherwise they seem to develop strange wear patterns that if left too long cannot be corrected.
Just my experience .

Have just replaced my Cooper ATRs after 130 000km and never had a puncture but as old wal said rotating was needed and had no hessitation in getting some new AT3s. Only time will tell if they are as good

Sorry, just found I'd not finalised this thread.
Finally ended up with BFG A/T's and all good so far. Incidentally got 9 as I'm matching tyres & rims. The price from BJ Tmart was very good but the local MT dealer wouldn't budge from full price. Won't bother with them again! Thanks to all for your comments.
